A follow up to "Yacht Music for Yacht People", this set follows the same ebb and flow of that set.  Yacht Rock is more than just smooth rock from the 70s and 80s, it is a reimagining of a genre that requires continuous exploration.  This is my reinterpretation of that genre. Features remixes from Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Peter Gabriel, The Police, David Bowie, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, and Queen.

For this installment of my chill series I found inspiration the moment I heard a vocodered voice singing Hotel California in the Luxxury edit. A week later I heard AfroQBen's amazing remix of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith and I was off to the races. Being a New Wave kid as a teen I didn't get into many of these songs until my adult years and yet somehow I listen to this mix and it makes me feel like a teenager again.

With undeniable urgency, Vita Elizabeth Cleveland responds to Janelle Monae’s “Hell You Talmbout.” Her “Hell Y’all Ain’t Talmbout” lays out clearly the criticism that the current epidemic of transphobic violence is chronically omitted in discussion of Black Lives Matter. Vita E’s track uses Monae’s song as a jumping off point to deliver a powerful lesson in solidarity: “It’s all of us or none of us, flat out.” “Hell Y’All Ain’t Talmbout” ends listing 13 of the black trans women killed so far in 2015 with a declaration “We will NOT be erased! We will NOT stop!”

Originally from Cleveland, OH, Vita E. has been surrounded by the power of art since childhood. From then on, they made a pledge that they would use the art that inspired them to influence thought, change, and freedom to exist without apology. This pledge would lead to her life as a percussionist, educator, poet, vocalist, and activist. Vita’s passion as a Black Trans Femme artist has led to many milestones. She’s recently finished a summer-long role as percussionist, mentor, and vocalist for the Creede Repertory Theatre, and drummer for the full-stage debut of the hip-hop musical, Once Upon a Rhyme.

Imani_Atlantic is an artist-scientist-activist who is currently spending her time traveling through The Middle Passage and documenting stories of Black Bliss throughout the Diaspora. Imani_Atlantic uses podcasts, collage, and electronic music production as a way to share uplifting narratives and affirm the lives and brilliance of folx on the margin.

As the quarantine due to covid 19 enters it's third week, this Facebook livestream set was recorded in celebration of two amazing people, Tony and David.  We were supposed to have a proper party in San Francisco, but instead we got put on our best outfits for a zoom party.  Yacht music has always been one of my favorites, although I never owned a yacht, but one can dream.
