Intentions is a series created with the idea that different kinds of music are better suited for specific occasions. Mixes in this series have a specific intention, purpose, or setting that they will excel in.

The 'Young Sinners' EP is Massflow's first foray into vinyl and a peek into what you can expect from the label in the future. The title track, produced by Massflow member @weeping-cat (San Diego), is the centerpiece for an array of captivating remixes that give a glimpse into each artist's own unique style. The three other artists involved in the EP are none other than @caltrop, @regfant, and @esb-trax.

Today’s House Special: Rowdy Italian 🍝

Unscented DJ aka Brandon Wilner joins us on our latest guest mix by way of New York. He cooks up a buffet of the tastiest Italian house records from his recent set at Good Work, a summer party series in Brooklyn.

"I haven't focused on playing records for the past few years, so I was surprised and pleased when my friend Tom Campbell invited me to play his summer party, Good Work, back in June of this year. Good Work is an outdoor day-into-night party in Brooklyn and has long been one of my favorites, as the sound, setting, and crowd are always perfect. 

I used this occasion to play a lot of my favorite rowdy Italian deep- and piano-house records. Very happy to have the opportunity to record and share this mix, which is more or less a distillation of that very fun day."

You drove an hour to get to the show, so now it's an hour to drive home. You're tired, emotionally drained, but still on Cloud-9 and still need that vibe to make it home. So, you throw this mix on and next thing you know you're home from the club, eating a grilled cheese."

@birchkoolman: "For my Intentions Mix I conjured the image of a lonely renegade riding their horse into the sunset by themselves.

This trope usually showcases a hero with a shaky moral compass ultimately doing good but still ending up alone.

I envisioned the solitary ride into the open range after the stereotypical hero’s quest has been completed. The sun has set, the night has fallen and all that’s left is the unknown horizon."

For this installment of the Intentions series, I put together a mix of songs by Filipino musicians recorded between 1976 to 1983 (with the exception of the last track but more on that later). It’s a collection of Soul, Funk, Jazz, and Disco that I remember hearing as a child but never fully appreciated until later on in life. This mix is entitled “Isayaw Mo Si Lola” which, when translated into English from Tagalog, means “Have A Dance With Your Grandmother.”

The music in this mix was sourced from a variety of media: CDs purchased on ebay, vinyl rips, and music bought on iTunes (RIP). Once all the music was compiled, I recorded it on CDJs and finished after way too many attempts…
