V tokratni oddaji gostimo argentinskega umetnika Pabla Betasa, širše prepoznanega pod imenom njegovega producentskega projekta Bungalovv.

Na Radiu Študent ste o avtorju že lahko slišali v več oddajah Modem, v katerih je Matej Mihevc predstavil več njegovih izdaj, med drugimi Donde Hubo Fuego pri založbi Infinite Machine, ki jo je izbral za eno izmed 50 najboljših v letu 2020. Betasov značilen zvok predstavlja eksperimentalni ekosistem, ki sonično prepleta vzhodne in latinskoameriške ritme z afriškimi tolkali, instrumentalnimi in sintetiziranimi melodijami ter udarnimi basovskimi linijami. Bungalovv je poleg delovanja kot član osrednje ekipe Infinite Machine aktiven tudi kot ustanovitelj in kurator založbe Trrueno, s katero raziskuje in razširja področje eksperimentalne elektronske glasbe, tudi v performativnem pogledu.

V albumu Visited by Strangers, ki bo izdan konec meseca pri šanghajski založbi Genome 6.66 Mbp in ki po Dunde Hubo Fuego sledi izdajama It's Not Complicated in 20210817, se avtor introspektivno odmika od agresivnosti in vrača k melodičnim koreninam svoje glasbene prakse. V tednu pred izdajo ga boste lahko ujeli tudi v živo na naših tleh, v petek, 24. marca, v Gala Hali. Do takrat si lahko bobniče ogrevate z ekskluzivnim mixom, ki ga je avtor pripravil za današnjo DJ seanso.

Welcome again to the SPEED Mix Series. For our next instalment we have a very special mix from a local Naarm artist that we have been following for quite some time now and are so happy they are part of the series, ZATHAALGOR.

The DJ, producer and cybernetic entity known as ZATHAALGOR is a rising talent within the underground rave scene in so-called Australia, known for their intricate fusion of breakcore, speedcore, and hardtek. 

As a DJ, ZATHAALGOR flaunts their versatility, playing fringe experimental events, as well as club nights and underground raves across Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country, where they captivate audiences with their eclectic digital soundscapes. Their frenzied and futuristic DJ sets are complimented by their iconic LED helmet, handcrafted to be the perfect visual representation of their futuristic style of music. 

ZATHAALGOR has previously collaborated with Bass Water Freak Out, Meganesia, Rude Baby Records, Strictly Tracks, and New York hardcore labels 214 and Megatape, solidifying their place as a rising figure within the new wave of hardcore electronic. Prepare yourself for an adrenaline-pumping gauntlet of some of the most intense and complex offerings within the world of breaks, rave, hardcore and bass music.

sam and the womp - bom bom (baile mercer edit)

I have long been a fan of director Jonathan Glazer and composer Mica Levi’s work. The sci-fi horror film "Under The Skin" resonates with me on both an aesthetic and philosophical level as I can identify with Scarlett Johansson's character's alienation from humanity and dissociation from its own body.

However, creating a rescore on the same level as Mica Levi’s soundtrack was initially daunting. I have not attempted a soundtrack before and couldn’t help but place Mica Levi’s delicately balanced use of violas and signature motifs on a pedestal.

I found my way in by inhabiting the alien character’s perspective in this Death Scene, playing with feedback as a means to represent its supernatural life force and shifting mindset, from shell-shocked to introspective to afflicted. Bowed metal and violin I recorded then created an earthly contrast, representing rising tension and impending danger caused by man’s hand.
