Michael Hutchence was an Australian musician, singer-songwriter, actor and co-founded the rock band INXS, He was the lead singer and lyricist of INXS from 1977 until his death.

SnakeHips’n’LizardLips is my tribute to the man and to the group of very fine musicians that were INXS, done the Ma9Na way. Being a musician in Australia their early songs were very much apart of my own career and our paths crossed several times throughout the 80’s with some being not so obvious until later in my life. I tell a simple story that is as much about the private man that not many knew whilst acknowledging the vibe and fun that  Michael and INXS took to the world and leaving an endearing musical footnote in history. Ma9Na.

A reimagined, reworked and remixed 2022 version of Down for the Count has released. 
This Anthemic Anti War, Pro Humanity song is sadly fitting for recent events that should never have started. Nothing has been learnt!
Still the same relevant song with hard hitting lyrics made even more impactful by a rock infused acoustic guitar by Ma9Na and breathy, swirling tones of Harvey Summers Hammond B3 organ. A stellar vocal performance by Gerry Murrell including a guitar solo duel with Paul Kostromin's "Hendrix" tortured guitar. Harvey Summers keyboards and synths cut through the mix like a beacon of hope. Ma9Na's Drums, Percussion and Bass create the perfect backbone for this anthemic voice of a generation.

I want to make sure I remember this: "This version is a stand-alone cinematic orchestral arrangement, a collaboration between Harvey Summers and me. I stumbled upon the idea when I turned off the rock instruments in the final mix. I then envisioned a different orchestrated version that could stand on its own, with its own unique story. I wanted this version to have its own existence in the universe, like a "Fraternal Twin," which seemed poetically perfect.

The Story:
This heartfelt and deeply personal project has been a lifetime in the making.
Within this song, I've poured my emotions, fears, guilt, and profound sadness stemming from the unexpected wave of depression that engulfed me as I witnessed my little sister's courageous battle with cancer coming to an end.
It's not a pop song; instead, it encapsulates the discomfort and monotony that characterized those last 36 hours we spent together. It is my story, outside the rules of songwriting, but it takes you on my journey from sadness to madness to here!
We had already lost her twin brother 35 years ago. The song's artwork depicts them as youthful angels alongside an Owl, which holds great spiritual significance to me. This visual symbolizes my sincere desire to protect them, a role I wish I had fulfilled. As a young teenager, I left home and missed out on witnessing their growth and being by their side.
The song's title comes from a conversation with Debbs that we recorded on video during her two-year battle. She asked, "I suppose you are wondering what my favorite color is.
It's Blue, Blue, Blue."

Living in Tasmania, a small island on the southern tip of Australia, which I fondly call "the arts end of the world," is no deterrent. With technology and social platforms, the opportunities for sharing my creations are endless.

From humble beginnings in a small city in New Zealand, my musical life began as a guitarist. At the age of 13, a simple visit to a music shop to return a broken amplifier resulted in a drum kit returning home with me. Sneaking into venues to watch bands set up and soundcheck led to a chance meeting with a visiting band that took an interest in me, with an invitation to play a song on the drums with them. I was invited to watch the gig that night from the safety of the side of the stage due to being underage. I was pulled on stage and placed behind the kit during their set, playing my first live gig. My first band was in the audience, and so began a journey that took me to eventually full-time touring of New Zealand and Australia.

Hobart became my home in 1981, and for nearly two decades, I was a member of several successful bands, which included recording and touring band Reckless Hearts from 1993 to 1996. Fast-forward to 2020, and creating Ma9Na (ma-nine-nuh) as my artist’s name, I began writing, recording, and releasing my own songs featuring local, national, and international musicians to support my multi-instrumental abilities.

Drumming will always hold a special place in his heart, but he has also harbored a deep passion for writing, recording, and producing his original songs. These days, he has a home studio that allows him to create music at his leisure.

In addition to drumming, Ma9Na enjoys playing bass and guitar on his songs, and he humorously describes his keyboard skills as being like those of a one-finger typist.

Drawing inspiration from Australian rock bands such as Midnight Oil, NoiseWorks, and INXS and developing a newfound appreciation for Nightwish, Ma9Na is drawn to songs with meaningful narratives that address real-world issues rather than the typical themes of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.
