3024: Please describe the mix in a single sentence ?

I thought I’d make a mix in the currently popular yet controversial 140-160bpm range, as there’s some amazing music in this space between techno and jungle that doesn’t revolve around straight kicks, and I think it deserves more attention.

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

Throughout the years.. well apart from this guy Martyn I’d have to say Andi Baumecker. I don’t know many DJs with such a depth of knowledge across so many genres. His passion for music is relentless and continuously inspiring.

Recently I’ve been really into Polygonia. Brilliant producer and DJ from Munich creating ethereal worlds through sound so convincing you can almost step into them. I went to see her open Berghain last September and it was incredible, like being in a rainforest on acid. 

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

There’s a new EP coming this summer which will be announced soon, and a few remixes before that, for Jakojako and Hercules & Love Affair (with Mr Baumecker). Otherwise, I’m having fun developing a new live set involving MIDI controlled lights, which I premiered at Superbooth last week.

Music Room is a chic bar, with delicious wine, soft amber lighting and a tasty warm soundsystem. I really enjoyed this rare chance to slip through my playlists of dub techno, downtempo, minimal and velvety-slinky music of all kinds 🍸🪭🪶

Repping an oft overlooked Swiss techno contingent comes the next guest in Bassiani’s podcast series. Basel born and raised Garçon is one of the most promising names to call the bucolic town on the shores of the Rhine his home. He got an early start, mixing from the age of 14 and booked a mere two years later, assiduously cobbling together influences in his early work and soon delivering performances city-wide. First those at Hinterhof (now closed) and then those at local staple Elysia. With musical collaborator Agonis he’s also fired up techno label Amenthia Recordings, an agar dish for like-minded Basel music makers. His own sonic experiments are a purely live affair, and that’s no bad thing. Garçon’s escapades, from Waking Life to Barcelona’s Parallel have honed his voice and made of him an adept hand when faced with the strenuous demands of modulating crowd energy. Nodding to a range of influences across the electronic map he harbours a superlative talent for finding niche sounds at the fringes of common scope. Enter Podcast 208: towering, no-bullshit sounds, an hour of ghostly, mechanical whispers and powerful basslines, earth-shaking and infinitesimally precise techno from this connoisseur selector.

Next up in our mix series is Loek Frey, out of Amsterdam, an artist operating from an elusive abyss. Immune to external constraints, the OQAD label head is paving the way for a newfound sound within contemporary electronic music. While performing either as DJ or live, during peak time or sit down - Loek never fails to channel his liminal space of frequencies, resulting in appearances at places such as De School, Ankali, and Tresor. His productional oeuvre covers infinite tempos, lengths, and moods, which he manifests through his OQAD imprint and releases on labels such as Omen Wapta.

In this mix, Loek takes on a mind tickling trip both for the mind and body. Whether it’s IDM, techno, drum-and-bass, or breakbeat, Loek manages to fuse an unmatched sonic spectrum into a distinctive aesthetic at the collision point of the organic and mechanic, with a sound design through a razor-sharp minimalistic scope.

I had the joy of playing a sunny afternoon set 15:00-17:30 before Konduku, so I kept things bright & groovy 🌻🧚🌞

This set features some IDM, electro and minimal tracks I haven’t played out in years, alongside recent releases I’ve been enjoying.

The whole festival was beautifully programmed and curated, and I heard many inspiring sets throughout the weekend in the iconic grounds of the Castell De Montjuïc.

The recording of my set from La Nature Festival, recorded 12-3PM on a glorious sunny Sunday on the 23rd of June 2024.

This was one of my favourite sets this summer, I was so honoured to be playing before the legendary DJ Nobu, and spent time preparing for this set gathering bright~dubby~daytime techno with a zippy flair and uplifting energy 🧚

The set features lots of tracks I’ve been enjoying this summer, including music by: Tsott, GiGi FM, Azu Tiwaline, Vladw, Al Wootton, Sindh, Luigi Tozzi, Konduku, Stojche, Ness, Ruman, Rene Wise, Fireground, Forest On Stasys, Kohra & Midnight Traffic +++

Here we present a live performance from the ever excellent Feral recorded at this years Mo:dem festival in Croatia.

Returning to the Podcast for yet another round of Mach 4 techno comes Mala Junta head honcho DJ Tool, a live recording from his clubnight’s Bassiani takeover back in March. The Danish-born, German-based selector and former Fast Forward collaborator is every bit the sound and feel of Copenhagen, the gritty, trance-focused beats that have found a home in the Danish city run through his work like liquid mercury and now have Berlin in their grasp. And for one special night earlier this year, alongside D.Dan and Yazzus, Tbilisi too came under his fevered spell. With a manifest focus on inclusivity, support, friendship, and community, his signature sound is faster than a speeding bullet, one that whips up every ounce of a crowd’s energy and leaves behind the type of excited chatter you hear at the cloakroom at the end of the very best nights. It’s a techno that cuts right through and connects with people in the most visceral way, releasing pent up spirits through ferocious tempos and whirling bass. Iraqi by blood/Oaklander by upbringing, Lolsnake is a Berlin-based visual artist and DJ whose fulminating sets have taken centre-stage at some of the city’s most vaunted hangouts. It was studying neuroscience that took them from California to the UK, and there that they first discovered a taste of the creative freedom that club culture could offer. In 2014 they made the switch to the German capital, where a chance opportunity to throw a party at makeshift Neukölln locale Internet Explorer kickstarted a spate of FLINTA-focused parties that eventually landed them regular gigs at Tresor’s proxy venue OHM. From there the scope grew and both spoken word/performance art series queeeirdos and the later iterations of dance-geared and Säule-based party programme Weeeirdos took flight. An assemblage of creative disciplines and artists from visual art to comedy to VTSS to Ellen Allien, Parrish Smith and Schacke, the format has been a breeding ground for ideas and sounds, first in Berlin and now farther afield in cities like Prague and Copenhagen. As for their own output as in-demand selector, it’s fiery, arrow quick techno, a coup de foudre from the heart that takes no prisoners, be that at De School, Blitz or Transcendence Seoul. Unsurprisingly there’s a music label in the works, and this next instalment to whet your appetite while you wait. Bassiani Podcast 223 is a heady three-hour mix recorded live at the club back in June. Galloping beats bent on worldwide acclaim, tenacious and razor-sharp techno from a singular and fast-rising musical talent.

In anticipation of the next release, which is produced by our dear @dycide, he recorded a mix for the Log series in which he included the tracks of this upcoming collection of gems. With each release we'll put out from now on, we're heading into a new more adventurous direction away from pure deep techno / ambient side to a bigger mix of all influences which shaped us and lead us to new innovative places as artists.

Dycide takes the first step in this journey with this stunning mix, featuring only his own productions and some on which he collaborated with our members. It is almost unbelievable how big his oeuvre in the realm of drum and bass already is, given that he focussed on Techno for so long. A true come back to the roots which we welcome strongly!
