Very forestesque and a great correspondence between music and picture.

I would so like to build a hifi system in the woods. It would be so cool to listen to any music in such a great surrounding and acoustic.

Remarkable, rich natural reverb, yet, trees and grass and open-air should dampen sound. Bizarre.

Can the raw Impule Responses you used here be purchased somewhere?

Is this recording near the megaphones? Or are they far away from them (aka the real forest)?

Night Listening means sitting, through the night, in a chosen location, as still and quiet as possible, often for many hours, absorbed in purely listening, while recording. This is an excerpt from a recent Night Listening. It involves three Brushtail Possums, and one Red Fox. The responses of the Possums to the barking of the Fox are very interesting. (Don't start with the volume raised to more than 50 to 60 per cent: some of the fox barks are quite close and loud.)

Thousand of sand fleas (talitrus saltator) were eating a large jellyfish on the beach at Oleron island (France). We put 2 hydrophones inside to listen. We can hear the fleas jumping around but also the waves from the inside perspective of the jellyfish.

The close action of a pair of Ural Owls was so fascinating that I failed to notice the display of northern lights. 3.03.2024, Saueaugu, Estonia.

The clip was recorded on the Silver Bank, part of the Sanctuary for the Marine Mammals of the Dominican Republic. It includes distant humpback whale song. The highlight is the much louder and closer sounds that were being vocalized during a competitive interaction. This was a confrontation between five male humpbacks as they competed with each other to win a position as "escort" to an available female. The hope for the escort is that she will accept him as a potential mate.

The first eleven minutes of the recording document the gradual approach of the storm from the northwest; the remainder of the recording, its arrival and passing overhead, travelling towards the southeast.

2023.11.28 Thunderstorm (from a Balcony)

Every morning, at 9 o'clock, from August 30, 2023 to September 8, 2023, I was in different parts of Kirkenes to record the sound of the ferry coming from Tromsø. I found out that the ferry always sounds different, sometimes lower, sometimes higher, from different places in the city, also it can be heard differently - sometimes it blends in with the surroundings and sometimes it comes to the foreground.

A short track to emphasize the acoustic properties of the forests in Estonia. I have cut off most of the impulses to focus on reverberant response which can last 7 seconds or more. This was recorded at the (now infamous) 'forest megaphone' site on a dead calm evening in September 2015. The mics were not in the 'megaphones' however, but in the free air. The original file is in 24bit 48khz if you want to download and play with it.
