Today we finally give you ‘Silence,’ a song very close to our hearts and a B-side to our recent single ‘Silver Whispers.’ 

This song is about the more vulnerable side of love. It’s about welcoming those you love deeply to sit in your darkness with you, but then being terrified it will be too much for them. 

Written as no more than a dark lullaby, it gave words to feelings we didn’t know how to express at the time. It was also the first song we wrote after composing our debut Film Score, so it signals a shift in our sound that we were not yet aware of.

Silence

'Perfect' is the latest slice of Cinematic Indie Pop by Maari; written as an ode or lullaby to everyone you loved, you hurt and who hurt you. The single is produced with the aesthetic of an 80s dreamscape, tying in modern and classic synths, soaring backing vocal arrangements and aching lyrics. This is a very unique take on the 'coming of age' track, blurring lines between the wisdom of a Joni Mitchell track and the desperate romanticism of the early 000's pop-punk style. The duo are deeply Inspired by their recent introduction to film scoring and soundtrack writing and you can hear this unmistakably in their flair for lyrical heart and visual production.

This was defnintely Maari's first love song… emerging out of all the sassy or sad songs we were writing at the time this reminded us how much we love a good, heartfelt duet.
 
In true Maari form, it still comes with some dark undertones… It's about two young, stormy people who are still working on their shadows but are finding safety and learning trust again with eachother.
 
Being the last song we're giving you from our first big ol' batch of originals, it does really symbolise a transition in our sound. Today we're writing a lot of songs that melt darkness and light, magic and melancholy… AND we're writing much more duets!
 
So here you go… our first lover's duet AND the end of an era; 'LifeLine'

Lifeline

It's been a hot minute since we've given you a track with ample sass and grit… so here's a moody number with big boy drums and cheeky lyrics called 'Bad Omen.'
 
You may have heard us pump this out at our very first gig about 3 years ago… it's been around a while and we're keen to finally give it to you in recording form!
 
It's about toxic relationships, dependency, jealousy and one two many empty promises. Although it comes from a place of anger and defeat, it's definitely written as a 'letting go' anthem… taking place at that moment you decide you're so worthy of love. So we hope this is a bit of a fist bump for those who need it.

Bad Omen

'Silver Whispers' is the latest honey-dipped heart throb by Maari; exploring a production that feels like a Dirty Dancing and Moulin Rouge collab. The duo are known for anthemic choruses, slow builds and production that's sweet but gritty. This track gives you all that again, but with more nostalgia sprinkled in than ever before. The track is about falling in love again and again... against all odds. This duo come from super contrasting backgrounds in Punk, Pop & Film Scoring, so expect bouncy melodies, thumping bass and some sneaky string features.

This Sydney based Alternative Pop duo blur the lines between music for the heart and music for the dancefloor. With a mixture of delicate and dirty synths, roaring bass sounds and spitfire vocal performances, Maari deliver tracks that are sharp yet vulnerable. Sporting comparisons to artists like; Julia Michaels, Alessia Cara and The ChainSmokers, the duo have been dubbed ‘Paramore and Flume’s Lovechild.’ 

With an unapologetic love of all things magical and melancholy, the duo are a melting pot of darkness and light. Drawing on some extreme juxtapositions from a childhood of Punk Rock, Rnb, Music Theatre and Soul, Kabusii and Bronte Maree wear their heart on their sleeve and build their songs from a feeling upwards. 

Now, Dominic Cabusi and Bronte Maree O'Neill (Maari) present their very first full Film score and Soundtrack to ‘The Legend of The Five;’ out in Cinemas Australia wide- including Events Cinemas, Village Cinemas and various Independents. Their two title tracks; ‘A Million Wishes’ and ‘Home’ touch on friendship, romance, belonging and rising from the darkness in yourself.  Built layer by layer using the script and characters, you’ll hear vocal synths, choirs, tribal drums and intricate piano features. Scoring and writing for ‘The Legend of The Five’ allowed the duo to indulge in their love of painting to an emotion more than ever before, and from this experience they take some new instrumental layers to add to their wall of sound and a flair for desolation and romance. 

The tracks were recorded in the Duo’s humble Inner West Studio before being mixed by Simon Cohen (Justin Bieber, Vera Blue, Glades) and Mastered by Ben Feggans (Flume, Hayden James, Miami Horror). 

Since the birth of Maari three years ago, they’ve shared the stage with the likes of North East Party House, Wafia, E^st and Lamalo and have received international radio play and attention from blogs such as Pilerats, Auspop, and Wonky Sensitive. Their Music Videos have been featured at Sydney Fringe Festival's Clipped.Tv event, Parramatta Lanes Festival and on MTV's program 'MTV Upload.’ 

After some serious studio time, the duo are now getting ready to bring you their first body of work. Playing on themes of toxicity, love, anger and transitions… Maari’s most raw, angsty tracks are yet to come.

2018 looks to be a big year for the Indie Pop duo. They released their latest single ‘Desire’ in August; a party anthem of fierce sexuality with instinctually groovy verses and thumping choruses. As well as spending days in the studio chipping away at a body of work, the pair have recently supported acts such as North East Party House, Wafia, E^st and Morgan Bain with their energetic yet raw live show.
