Madloch's Crossfade Sounds proudly reintroduces Dott. Santafeo to the label with his 4-track EP, "New Home." Following his successful debut in 2022 with the acclaimed album "Basileo Regolo Re Di Biss," which received two remix editions last year, we are thrilled to welcome back this exceptionally talented producer with four fresh originals spanning the realms of techno to drum'n bass.

Hailing from Italy, Leonardo Patrizi, also known as Dott. Santafeo, is a multifaceted artist encompassing the roles of DJ, producer, live performer, and sound designer. Renowned for his deep and dubby interpretation of techno, Dott. Santafeo transcends traditional genre boundaries, fearlessly experimenting with various forms of electronic music. Emerging onto the scene in 2020 with an EP on Organica Sound, Dott. Santafeo quickly garnered recognition for his atmospheric soundscapes, ethereal beats, and evolving sonic narratives.

With subsequent projects on labels like Apnea Label, ChessBoard Music, Sense Label, and Zero Signal Records, Dott. Santafeo solidified his status as a rising star in the electronic music scene. As a highly respected DJ, he has graced the stages of Italy's most prominent nightlife venues for over a decade, captivating audiences with his vinyl selections and expertly curated sets that transcend boundaries and elevate the dance floor experience.

The fourth release on Valentino Mora’s label, IDO, comes from a fresh, young French producer, Olorun. Olorun began making dark, atmospheric techno as Abrial, releasing 3 EPs under this guise, before directing his focus to explore the textured, minimal, and ambient musical aspects that have always fascinated him. As his approach became more contemplative, he began exploring different moods and a “sweetness and a kind of purity in music.” Through stepping back to examine the subtlety of texture, Olorun’s attention to natural landscapes increased. This encouraged him to name his new, more sensitive project ‘Olorun’; a personification of the natural elements in Santeria’s religion.

Considering Olorun’s affinity with the the natural landscape, it is understandable how the graphic work of Atif Akin on Moruroa’s Crack would provide the inspiration behind the productions that would become Moruroa EP. Conflicting emotions arise when considering the beauty, as well as the destruction, of Moruroa’s Crack, a site devastated by nuclear tests during the cold war. Olorun responded to these feelings through his interpretation of a “journey through the different islands of the archipelago.” Olorun invites the listener to reflect on the always conflicting relationship between humans and their environment.

Moruroa EP is an abstract research characterised by textured layers that form a hybrid construction between organic percussions and atmospheres, and synthesised sounds that remind the listener of humanity’s - often destructive - entanglement with nature. The first track of the A side, Yuki, is a mystical, experimental piece layered with tribal percussions that evoke the Pacific landscape while hints of uncertain mechanical sounds question humans use of nuclear testing in this peaceful environment. The deep and hypnotic atmosphere in Kodo is likely to induce an euphoric, meditative state on the dance-floor. On the B side, Moruroa is also one for the dance floor; a downtempo cut, with deep grooves and atmospheres that will transport the listener directly to the lush forests of the titles namesake. The final track, Tuamotu begins with indistinct voices, hinting perhaps at the secrecy behind the atomic tests at Moruroa. Hopeful drones coupled with soft, expectant percussions, elicit an air of mystery that leaves the listener desiring. Overall, Moruroa EP, has a captivating and intriguing energy that maintains the deep, meditative and spiritual identity IDO has carved for itself.

I have to admit, Joachim Spieth was not a name that I instantly recognized. Most of his recent full-length albums and EPs, including the one I am covering right now, were put out on his very own German Affin label [and its subsidiary, Affin LTD]. But listening further, and digging some more, I began to recognize the ethereal aesthetic, the ebb and flow, and the atmospheric textures that felt slightly familiar. It is only after reviewing his discography further that I realized that Spieth has appeared on numerous Total and Pop Ambient installments curated by Wolfgang Voigt for Kompakt. Following a glimpse of his individual contributions, I returned to this long-player, again and again, traversing its slow-stretching arc through the warm-filtered spectrum. His third album, Ousia, is a follow-up to his 2020 Tides, continuing the journey through dreamlike environments, deep and calm, wide and open, like a limitless ocean spreading into the outer and infinite, distant and unknown. Even this morning, as my anxiety fed by the unknown is making itself felt in my chest, neck, and shoulders, the gentle and soothing sounds of “Jiwa” spread through my mind and remind me to simply step back, take a breath, and put things in context. Here we are.  For another short day. For another brief moment. And as I gather this time to reflect on what it truly means to be here and now, I hope that this music connects you with me, and with Joachim, in the dispatch of sonic transmission.

"[OUSIA] creates imaginary spaces, translates ephemeral impressions, and condenses them into cinematic soundscapes. The eight pieces illustrate an intense and emotional journey that creates expressive relationships between external and internal perceptions."

The album is out in January 2021, on a 2×12″ vinyl, with a special edition featuring a booklet of photographs by Spieth. Recommended for fans of introspective, oceanic, and tidal ambiance, from the likes of Markus Guentner, Brock Van Wey, and Marsen Jules.

Maarten VX is an emerging Ghent-based artist navigating intuitively within the spectrum of electronic music. The producer balances danceability and musical profoundness, makes raw elements and emotional depth collaborate, and reconciles light and darkness. He paints electronic landscapes fed by iPhone recordings and sounds from everyday life.

Since the lockdowns of 2021, Maarten VX has sent three EPs into the world, finding their way to Studio Brussel, Rinse FM, Radio 1, Focus Knack, … On top, he dropped a remix for DJ Seinfeld and was voted the winner of Cellini's remix contest (hosted by Red Bull Elektropedia and vi.be). 

At the end of 2022, Maarten VX played Braindance in a sold-out Ancienne Belgique supporting Fatima Yamaha, HAAi, Daniel Avery, ... Live, Maarten VX experiments in the gray zone between a concert feeling and a club experience.
