Rift makes a powerful return on Dispatch Limited with the Black & Gold EP, a five-track collection that marks a fresh chapter in his sound. After stepping back from production to reset his creative direction, Rift channels a rawer approach, drawing on the influence of early 2000s drum & bass while weaving in the tense, atmospheric qualities of cinematic scores. The result is an EP that feels both stripped-back and expansive, balancing heavy pressure with eerie, suspenseful sound design.

The project is also shaped by visual art. The title track, “Black & Gold,” was the first piece written for the EP, sparked by inspiration from Bill Elis’ artwork. The visual tone of his work set the foundation not only for the track itself but also for the identity of the full release.

Across the EP, Rift explores themes of unease and intensity. From the brooding atmospheres of “Teardrops” and “Paralysed” to the rolling momentum of “Tremors” and “Sinners,” the journey culminates in the title track’s stark and cinematic presence. Each cut feels deliberately crafted, reflecting both a reverence for drum & bass history and a forward-focused creative vision.

The Black & Gold EP has already gained strong support across the scene, with Philth playing a central role in championing the tracks both in sets and during the production process. Additional support has come from Enta and Cause4Concern, underlining the impact of Rift’s return.

Since its first release, DLR’s Sofa Sound has firmly solidified itself, proving that they’re set to continue the growth of their spearheading roster. Whether it’s the artists who’ve previously collaborated with DLR on other, more-longstanding independents, or the producers who DLR has personally picked from the Sofa Sound demos box, there’s already been a high calibre of tracks unleashed on the imprint. And with their next digital single in the pipeline, their growth remains unstoppable, proving that their initial groundbreaking commitment is still being adhered to. 
Forthcoming from Sofa Sound is the brand new release from Dub Head; inherently underground, the Ukrainian based producer has already made his mark on imprints like Ant TC1’s Dispatch Recordings. ‘Meltdown’ and ‘Space Worm’ are technically brilliant and prove why Dub Head is such a coveted addition to the likes of Sofa Sound and Dispatch Recordings. The A-side ‘Meltdown’ is a heavily percussive roller, with clanking drums, tinkering hi-hats and floating note sequences which add to the lulling atmospherics of its introduction. But when the record finally breaks, cold pads and Dub Head’s signature funky bassline takes you to a much lower frequency. Minimalist yet throbbing with power, Dub Head shows that you don’t need to bow to commercial viability to make a resounding impact. 
On the reverse, you’re taken into ‘Space Worm’. Dub Head promises to continue his assault, providing another record which is effortless in its complexity whilst wrapping the listener around its thumping bassline. Hollowed snares and crackling instrumentals interfere with the composition like static, as the record slowly begins to unfold segment by segment. Its more distorted elements add a jutting layer, providing a siren like-feel on top of its heavy breakdown, providing another undeniably weighty release from Sofa Sound.
