Transient - Recorded LIVE at the Rum Point Pub in Atlantic City. Recorded to a 2 Track Cassette Deck right off the Mixing Board. Not your average club band. Fade at end due to cassette tape running out.

Transient - What Is Hip (Live)

The 80s found me new groups and composing projects. RED was a trio project with JW and SF which later spawned a semi-related group, Fred Laugh. We might not have been able to describe our sound, but it was period.

Our RED project recorded a single demo cassette for landing gigs and so-called record label showcases (which were to be auditions for label A&R; mostly farcical efforts). The RED demo included 5 tracks; 4 were songs and the 5th track was this groovy, ambient vibe track I prepared. Set up in my tiny basement bedroom studio with a 4Track Reel-to-Reel recorder, a Sequential Pro-One synth, and Roland TR-606 drumbox (which pulse-triggered my ProOne's sequencer steps), Williams and I vibed; John executing lovely, ambient arpeggiated guitar phrases, and me, questing sonic clouds, semi-bass, and angular tension & release on Chapman Stick. One take, no overdubs (as in: not worth the effort on 4track). 
A trippy mix, and done. 

I did this mix with a shitty Teac line mixer patched with some lofi (the only kind of the day) effects - a couple overdrive pedals, (what sounds like) a flanger, a Bucket Brigade delay, and a Premier spring verb tank. 'RUFUS'

Freedomland Jam

Easy to hear multi-layered groove.  

Experiments in time... piano dropped first, loosely on the click... later added variegated grooves of percussion and keys all unraveling and traveling at individual rates vis-a-vis the click... tied together with quiet dance beats.

I Like was first conceived 1980 in the Laban centre London as a work for Richard Haisma's wonderfully energetic choreography. 

Dreams and Water was created initially in a Hoboken loft in 1984, as a kind of interpretation or riposte to the KISS FM Mega Mixes that won New York's airwaves every lunchtime that year.

Gibbous Moon Blue Sky and Sun is a 4th world nod towards Jon Hassell, and indeed Jon Keliohor of London Contemporary Dance School fame. 

Canterbury Memory - I would cycle, a kind of pilgrimage as it were, from London, through Kent, to Petham just outside Canterbury, for sustenance and relief from the urban vibe.

The Old Straight Track, named after the Alfred Watkins book of the same name.
