As the fragility and explosiveness of this topic is conveyed instrumentally by Dutch artist CRZE, Macarena ties it together by singing in Spanish, the language of love. Patience has a mellow but beat heavy sound. In this track I express the fragility of knowing what to do next but not having the courage for it yet by lyrically explaining the thought process behind patience. With an underground hip hop inspired outro, producer Lady Groove adds a new dimension to the track. Similarly to my track Mañana, which received Dutch Coverage on 3voor12noordholland, this song is LGBTQ inspired.

Indie artist Macarena drops an upbeat bilingual track with Lágrimas. Previously places in Are & Be and Fresh Finds she’s now showcasing her lyrical skills in English and Spanish. Inspired by her coming out, Lágrimas is about breaking free from the opinion of others, coming to terms with her true self and welcoming love in abundance in future generations - touching upon breaking family cycles. With a colorful touch producer Lady Groove makes this track danceable, mysterious and fun to listen to.

Macarena used the pandemic to reflect. She created Paradise, an alternative R&B track, that lays down how she’d been hiding who she was and is making active decisions to slowly show more of her to herself and the world around her. Throughout the track Macarena looks for her own paradise of self-acceptance and -confidence in a melancholic yet powerful way. With Erykah inspired harmonies and previous editorial placements in ‘Are & Be Latin’ Macarena now showcases her lyrical versatility in English.

Paradise

Freedom isn’t self-evident for the LGBTQIA+ community. Repeatedly we see the hurt and pain that can come from being out. ‘Libre’ acknowledges this experience. It taps into the hunger for freedom and honors freedom, while also holding space for moments that can’t be lived in freedom. The song is in Spanish, honoring my Latinx roots, and the overall Latin Pop sound will make you feel connected, emotional yet hopeful – with the universal message being that: we also deserve to live in freedom.

Moving on after a heartbreak is difficult, messy and can be anything but pretty. 'Lie' was written in a moment of realization - accepting the heartbreak while still being affected by the matter. Blue Wednesday gave the track an uplifting and happy-spirited feeling and I hope it helps you work through your heartbreak :).

Something New is the third single following up my debut release. The song is an embodiment of changing friendships, flush with warm bass sounds and lush vocal harmonies influenced by soul artists such as Moonchild and Ari Lennox. An extract of original Spanish poetry concludes the song, a testament to my heritage.

Fallin' is very mystical song, showing a clever combination of warm jazzy chords and a breezy melody. This track is experimental and gives the feeling of a free fall throughout the track while overlapping multiple genres. Fun fact: this track embraces musical elements from the Chilean indigenous.

Amsterdam independent artist Macarena blends neo soul, chill R&B and alternative pop with a touch of latin and thoughtful lyrics. She discovered her love for music while listening to jazz with her dad and developed her writing skills by writing poems during her teen years. As Macarena evolved these skills she released her first track in 2017 called 'Mind' (Prod. by RINZ.). Macarena went on to release her debut EP 'Rebirth' in 2018 and followed it up with multiple single releases, of which 'Something New' (Prod. by Lady Groove) earned her her first spot on Spotify editorial playlists New Music Friday Latin, Are & Be Latin and Fresh Finds. 

Macarena’s goal is to create a lyrical safe space for her listeners, writing music about self-doubt, jealousy and letting go - all tight in with her LGBTQ experiences.
