Born in Finland in 1974, Jani Ho's musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. From his formative years in New York City to his later adventures in Melbourne, Jani has absorbed a kaleidoscope of influences, shaping his unique sound: machine music with soul.

Jani's hardware-only approach allows him to explore new sonic territories, pushing the limits of what is possible with electronic instrumentation. This is a testament to his innovative spirit and his unwavering dedication to his craft, by eschewing digital software in favour of hardware-based performances, he brings a raw energy and authenticity to his music.

'Funk Machines', is Jani Ho's third EP release on Melbourne based Machine Label, featuring four original tracks and three remixes that seamlessly blend electro funk-infused rhythms with space-age techno vibes, this EP is poised to transport listeners to a realm where groove reigns supreme.

One of the highlights of the EP is 'G.I.L.' a collaboration with Audience, a dynamic fusion of their respective styles that pushes the techno electro groove. Additionally, there's three remixes of 'G.I.L'. , first up is Disruptive Pattern Material, the ex-motor city artist turned Melbourne resident, whose remix adds a gritty edge to the EP while staying true to its roots. Helsinki-based Hypnobombia delivers a hypnotic reimagining infusing it with a sense of otherworldly allure. Rounding out the remix lineup is French techno legend Xavier Morel, whose interpretation brings a dose of European flair to the EP.

Ground Loop - Stand Houden [MACH018] preview

Cybernetic sonic landscapes flicker into the horizon on top of a bed of deep organic techno beats from Melbourne based producer Enclave as he serves up this special 'live' set for Machine Mix Series 3.


Enclave has been a mainstay of the Melbourne and Australian Techno scene for over 15 years now via several releases on labels such as Machine, Translucent, Android Muziq, If? Records, Hypnotic Room 
and others as well as his deep journeyman Live Pa sets which as of 2021 is now delivered via an Akai Force Hardware production system and a Xone23 Dj mixer.

His sound is best described as deep ,dark futuristic and hypnotic techno with a strong organic and cerebral flavour, alongside a strong emphasis on custom sound design and atmospherics.

Enclave's work has garnered the support of Chris Liebing, Vince Watson, Slam, Danny Tenaglia and Mike Parker  amongst others over the years.

During the trying lockdown period of 2020and 2021 he has focused on re-invigorating his own Bandcamp Page release roster and implementing new Hardware as above and below for his Live and Studio productions. He also recorded many podcasts and kept his live skills honed while everything was closed.

He has also developed a separate Techno alias called ”Spectralias” using his Spectralis Groovebox, a Model Cycles and an FX unit or two. This has already resulted in a live gig,a podcast or two and a joint A/V remote live session with VJ Mandala.

At the time of writing Enclave has a new liveset ready to go and many unreleased techno and ambient tracks completed(amongst other work) and is looking forward to playing more gigs and releasing more music.

Hypnobombia is a Helsinki based, techno-centric ensemble formed by Valo Elios   and Jaakko Huotari, whose focus is on love for techno music. Since their founding in 2016, the duo has channeled their 20+ years of techno experience into crafting a unique sound that marries the intensity of night-time techno with lighter, more ethereal elements. Their music is known for its rich layers of darkness, humidity, and relentless groove.

Their tracks are distinguished by small, crunchy details that create a sense of suspense, evoking the sensation of thin ice cracking during a storm. SIMON SLIEKER  :: 7 quick lockdown questions  

1. Action, Drama, Romance or Documentary movie? 

Whichever one has a sweeping epic hero. Unfortunately this means I have dubious taste in cinema, lacking nuance, eschewing complexity, and constantly craving something to believe in. I’m increasingly disappointed. 

2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol? 

At the moment tea. That’s the morning ritual. But I don’t really like tea, it’s too watery and insipid. But coffee is brutal, so I like to roll off it periodically. Hence the tea. As for alcohol, if you’d asked me last lockdown, it was all about Damned Murphy and his crazy specials, hmmm a spirit, all the fun of the mixed case of wine, may well get this six pack as well, oh and these ciders, and on the way out that shopping trolley with random bottles was so much fun; wow $1.39 for a bottle of citrus stout: bargain! Bleaugh. This time I’ve stopped altogether. Dry. So the tea has become quite the ‘high’. High tea. 

3. Sleep in or get up early 

Ah this is becoming about the contrasting lockdowns: 1 and 2. Lockdown 1 I didn’t sleep, I stayed up the whole time. Lockdown 2 I’m going to bed early and have made a surprise discovery: getting up early. Which sounds bad, like you’re being punished. But it turns out it means you’re getting enough sleep. I’ve not experienced this before so it didn’t make any sense. It’s amazing you should try it. 

4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album 

I don’t have one.

5. What art movement describes you the best?

Pre-Raphaelite.

6 Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal

Maybe folk. But I think you’ve chosen the four exceptionally problematic and compromised genres there. Were they chosen especially for me? I’m going with folk because when I was 16 I decided to become quite good with a harmonica and I think that had something to do with folk, or Bob Dylan at least. 

7. Tell us something no one knows about you?

I don’t have a favourite listening album. Oh that cat’s out of the bag. Um, I don’t want to alarm anyone, but I think I’m starting to go bald.

"I’ve only managed to get through a couple of movies throughout both lockdowns; action would probably be my top pick of those three."

"A couple of strategically placed coffees throughout the day without fail."

"Due to having young kids; it’s always, always, always get up early."

"Loom Dream by Leif has been a regular in the last 12 months."

"Surrealism"

"I’d probably have to say folk but all of those aren’t in my regular rotation."

"According to Spotify, my most listened to album of 2019 was Dean Martin’s ‘Italian Love Songs’."

1. Action, Drama, Romance or Documentary movie?

2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol?
Coffee - though if you’re talking instant, I’ll pass. I’ve lately had to temper my caffeine intake; finding great organic decaf coffee beans has helped, but I have also developed a renewed appreciation for pots of herbal tea, most varieties (except chamomile - bleugh ;)*, in many combos... As for alcohol: having, by my early-mid-40s, drunk enough for three or four lifetimes, I now no longer drink booze (I know, huh? :)*. It’s not a hard “no”; I’ll have the occasional vodka-cranberry / Moscow Mule / Frangelico on ice with lime / etc. whilst working at Machine (for instance) but the last time that happened, well... ;/*

3. Sleep in or get up early?
Definitely the former; in fact, I sleep in so hard I’m basically noctural. And I’ve been that way since I was a kid. It’s not that I don’t like mornings; I do, and (one reason) I love our dance music culture (is) for the opportunity it affords to see the sunrise after staying up all night!

4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album
Techno (any). Or footy replays xD*

5. What art movement describes you best?
Hmmm, maybe Fauvism? For the colour and whimsy...

6. Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal?
After techno, I like all those almost equally; metal probably wins (being most like techno! ;P*) \nn/-

7. Tell us something no one knows about you
You know, I can’t think of a single thing about myself that isn’t known by at least one other person... If I was a book, I’d be open ;o*

1. Action, Drama, Romance or Documentary movie?
- Nothing beats a good action flick IMO.
2. Coffee, Tea or Alcohol? 
- Coffee in the morning, black coffee straight outta the pot. Then Beers in the evening, of the rich and fulfilling kind.
3. Sleep in or get up early 
- I used to sleep in, but time and family have made me a 5.30am guy. 
4. Favourite Sunday afternoon listening album
- I listen to hip hop most days, currently really digging on Black Thought’s new album, but Sunday arvo is usually reserved for music with the family as dictated by the youngest member, and my son is going through a Metallica phase. I’m alright with it.
5. What art movement describes you the best?
- I would say, Vorticism.
6 Opera, Country, Folk or Black Death Metal 
- hmmm tough one. In a pinch I’d take Black Death Metal over the others though, for obvious reasons.

-I played the flute in high school.
