Esta pieza tiene la intención de recrear un espacio ritual en el que se alude a la muerte como potencial generadora de vida.
Además de una flauta bajo de pico y un par de flautas de carrizo que la intérprete utiliza en vivo, en la obra se usan un grupo de flautas tradicionales mexicanas manipuladas electrónicamente que comprende: flautas diatónicas, flauta microtonal, flauta de mirlitón (con un orificio cubierto por una membrana de tela de araña), flauta triple (funciona a base de batimentos); huíjolas (que simulan gorgeos de pájaros) y un silbato de viento.
El interés por este grupo de instrumentos radica en explorar sus posibilidades en cuanto al timbre y la afinación para diseñar una parte con la que la intérprete interactúa durante la obra. La idea es abstraer la sonoridad de los mismos de su contexto original para utilizarla en un ámbito de composición contemporánea.
El movimiento del sonido en el espacio es otra característica de la obra por lo que se utilizan 4 altavoces que rodean al público e intérprete para su óptima difusión.

This piece is intended to recreate a ritual space alluding to death as a potential source of life. 
In addition to a bass recorder and a pair of reed flutes used live by the performer, this work incorporates a group of traditional Mexican flutes electronically manipulated. This group includes: diatonic flutes, microtonal flute, Mirliton flute (with a hole covered with a spider web membrane), triple flute (works based on batimentos, binaural beats or infrasonicphantom sounds), huíjolas (whistles simulating bird chirping) and a wind whistle.
The interest in this group of instruments lies in exploring their possibilities in terms of timbre and tuning to design a part with which the performer interacts during the performance. The goal is to abstract the sonority of the instruments from its original context in order to use it in a field of contemporary composition. 
The movement of the sound in space is another characteristic of the work; hence four speakers surrounding the public and performer are used for its optimal diffusion.

Program notes:

Pájaro Eléctrico (Electric Bird) was written between January and February 2017. In the first sector, unpredictable rhythmic patterns, requiring great virtuosity by the pianist, express several lines that unfold in different registers. 
These are interrupted from time to time by dense chords. The juxtaposition of textures is reinterpreted later producing dramatic contrast in the character of the piece. Quasi-tonal slow passages appear, which nevertheless take the harmonies of the previous sections as a starting point.
The harmonic content is also used as a way to generate contrast between diatonic or pentatonic colors, and highly chromatic ones.

The work was premiered by Irma Peruyero on September 27th 2017at FICA21 International Festival, at the auditorium of the University of Veracruz's Music Faculty.

Pájaro Eléctrico (2017) for piano

Infinite Lanes was composed between April and May 2017. The premiere took place on July 29th 2017, at Wellesley College Composers Conference.

Program notes:

Infinite Lanes was written thinking specially in the Composers Conference Ensamble. The name of the work refers to the multiple tempo changes, streams of overlapping speeds, and metric modulations which generate the form.

Dense and pointillist textures, as well as sudden changes, I think somehow are an influence of being living in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, which is a fog forest of ever-changing beauty. There is a wealth of plants and trees and the most refined flowers. One feels that it is impossible to encompass everything he sees.
