2021 has seen a rise of New York via Vermont producer Aspetuck, who's been having a phenomenal string of releases on labels like Lagaffe Tales, A Friend In Need, and XLR8R.
In just a few weeks, the string continues, and the Aspetuck story will get 'a main chapter' in the form of his sophomore album 'The Bees Came Back.' The album highlights the producer's vast musical taste and attention to complex rhythms. The versatility of Aspetuck's productions has a common denominator - quality, which perfectly reflects in the mix Aspetuck made for us. 
Aspetuck patiently develops the storyline from cosmic Ambient and Electronica to Deep House to rumbling Techno, Acid, and Breaks during this two-hour journey. This type of mix has no expiration date; it's storytelling in its most refined form.

@xdb is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. His roots are in the central German town of Göttingen. It was here that he began DJing in the early nineties; where he worked in a record shop; where he ran a radio show for five years; and the base from which he established the Metrolux record label in 2006.
For many people, it was at this point that XDB appeared on their radar. His debut ‘Jackintosh EP’ and the following ‘Descap EP’ made a splash with heads, but whilst the shimmering dub techno moments were perhaps the most obvious hook, subsequent tracks defied easy categorisation – an early indication that the person behind the music took a broad view of electronic music, caring not for stylistic pigeonholes.
Further releases mapped out more of a defined aesthetic for the label, with XDB’s own work sitting alongside contributions from Atheus and Arne Weinberg. By 2007, Kosta’s music had caught the ear of other outlets; including Francois Kevorkian’s Deep Space Media (a sublabel of Wave Music) licensed ‘Descap’ and ‘Descap live’ for re-release. @brendonmoeller was the A&R at that time and a 4 track EP on Wave Music followed in 2009.
The same year, @p-scott put out the first XDB release on his own @sistrum-recordings, which saw Kosta tailoring his output to a cleaner, more Detroit-inflected sound. In tandem with his production work, XDB the DJ was coming into his own. An avid collector of vinyl since his childhood (Kosta’s collection presently numbers some 10,000 records); he had honed his craft in clubs and on the radio – mixing monthly on his own ‘Case Check’ show. 2008 brought an early highlight – spinning at Japan’s lauded Labyrinth festival alongside the cream of the international deep techno and house scene.
Kosta’s DJ sets draw upon his expansive record collection, playing right across the board of electronic music. He has no shortage of technical skill but it’s his selection that truly shines – putting the music itself at the forefront, letting songs breathe when need be, and delivering plenty of head-scratching ‘what the hell is this track?’ moments.
It’s on this that Kosta has built his reputation. Tastemakers such as the now-defunct mnml ssgs crew were quick to snap him up for a guest mix in 2009, and several of his online recordings have been picked up for @resident-advisor ‘Mix of the Day’ spot. In 2010, XDB played at the UK’s highly-regarded Freerotation festival – starting a love affair with the event that’s seen him come back every year since. The festival secured Kosta’s place within a fraternity of fellow musicians and DJs who also prefer to let their music do the talking – likeminds who recognise the purity in what they do, and are all the more respected because of it.
That same year, he remixed Detroit heroes Norm Talley - @ormalley and Aaron Carl - @aaroncarl and in 2011 produced releases for the Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Echocord imprints. 2012’s highlight was a split 12” with Kassem Mosse and in 2013 he was reunited with Sistrum Recordings for the ‘Frocks’ record. 2013 also saw the rebirth of Metrolux after a 3 year hiatus, with ‘Edition 2’, an excellent Various Artists release.
When it comes to producing, Kosta favours a slow and steady work rate, opting to focus on quality control rather than record shop ubiquity. His DJing keeps him in the public eye, but one gets the sense that XDB prefers to operate in the shadows. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Arguably, it’s an innate quality – the way he wants to play it; the way that brings him most satisfaction, but it’s helped establish his reputation as an artist of considerable merit, winning the approval his audience and peers, alike.

@conforce aka Versalife is a restless producer residing in Rotterdam, Holland, who is forever keen to search out new techniques, tools and sounds for the various musical projects in which he is involved. Continually flirting with a range of genres like techno, ambient techno, electro and house on numerous EPs and LPs, he also operates in sonic territory that has no easily identifiable name. As one of the most prolific artists in the scene over the last 10 years, he has become an essential voice in the often crowded conversation: he is someone who always speaks clearly and captivatingly and has done so via more than ten full length albums and more than 30 EPs on labels like @delsinrecords, @clone-nl, @2020visionrecordings, @echocord and his own label @transcendent-records. With this performances he focusses on musical content rather than equipment. The digital/analogue dichotomy of his productions spread into these sets, always stressing the importance of the human element without shying away from technology’s advances at the same time as marrying genuine emotional depth with dance floor compatibility.

With a back catalogue spanning over twenty years, Ohm is a mainstay of the deep techno scene. He appeared on Lempuyang in June this year with Octal Industries, and also features on the label's one year anniversary compilation. He's also a thoroughly nice bloke and a fucking good DJ.

It's a Dub ting!

It isn't easy to describe the sound of dub music in philosophical terms because it is a subjective experience that can be interpreted differently by different people. However, using echo and reverb in dub music creates a sense of space and openness, reflecting philosophical ideas about the nature of existence and the vastness of the universe. The heavy use of bass and electronic instruments is also a reflection of modern philosophical ideas about technology and its role in shaping our world experience. Ultimately, the philosophical significance of dub music will depend on the individual listener and their interpretation of the music.
This set may pose more questions than answers, but some things are clear. It's a creative and masterful journey into dub.

Asygen's passion for electronic music began in the '90s, from the time of the radio Station 106,8 FM, rave's crazy times, listening to the new and progressive music at the time, trance and techno.
After visiting many parties and listening to a massive amount of music, he tries himself out and organizes small psytrance parties, also being a DJ, playing dark psychedelic trance. Asygen organized many private trance events, travelled to Goa and Europe, met up with musicians and DJs and never stoped collecting music from minimalistic side of psychedelia. Over time, his interest in this kind of music has grown into a profession and Dmitry became a resident DJ of the German music label Glitchy.Tonic.Records. During his time on the label he released three compilations: Hypno.Tembr and Fractal Tales (1,2), which includes tracks of the world-famous trance musicians. His work on the label has not gone unnoticed and Dmitry is now also signed in English-Australian label Insonitus records. In addition to trance music he collects vinyl techno records of a deep and hypnotic sound. Together with friends he is organizing a series of techno parties under the name of Te4enie. Co-Founder of Touched music - promo group oriented on hypnotic techno parties and labels. He plays Techno from vinyl because it gives him a special feeling handling the vinyls and players. As a DJ he played in the Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, India, regularly performs in Russia.
