Trouble, in many ways, is a return to our origins in taste, influence and collaboration. Working with Owl Eyes and Bag Raiders’ Jack Glass, to reference some turn-of-the century dance-pop was such a natural fit. We’ve always had a spatial nostalgia for the 2000’s, so any excuse to inject its sound into today is one we’ll take.

North East band Smoove & Turrell have become real icons on the UK Soul scene, delivering albums and singles aplenty alongside an electric live show which has seen them tour Europe and entertain festivals across the continent.

Their 2023 album Red Ellen was another landmark in their storied discography and now they are re-visiting it with a series of remixes from Aroop Roy, Max Sedgley and Slynk all bringing their own inimitable touch to proceedings.

Our premier today is Max Sedgley's energetic and smile inducing remix of Violet Hour with Max adding some bubbling electro funk ass shakin' bass  and consequently driving this one straight to the festival dancefloor.

Gus Paterson returns to Citizens of Vice following his ace Regole Di Terzi EP from last year. His latest EP Neretic features four original cuts and a remix of the title track from Richard Sen. Keeping things decidedly Balearic across the first three tracks Neretic, Cost of Loving and Mirage Gus's production skills shine through. Packing in delicious sun-infused goodness through-out from deft keys and swirling synths via smile inducing basslines any one of these tracks would sound just about perfect gracing the sound systems of Ibiza's myriad beach and sunset bars.

Fourth track Moonbath still has that sun infused goodnees but is a little more primed for the dancefloor, imagine this one at Pikes around the pool with a cocktail in hand and you are on the right path. Seeing the EP out is Richard Sen's fiery remix of Neritic a real midtempo chugger but still keeping that Ibiza Moments in time vibe strong.

Extremely nice work all round.

Our premier today is Mirage and it's peak summer, throbbing beats, joyous keys and swirling synths galore are packed in here.

For the third installment of our Club Construction series we proudly re-issue a modern classic straight out of Baltimore, USA. Now "Bring In The Katz" isn't an old track, so why are we re-releasing it so soon? Because it's been the biggest dancefloor bomb in our sets for months and we feel it deserves attention far beyond its native Baltimore Club scene. A few words about the track itself - a "Think" break and big 808 kicks are a staple of the genre and they're deployed here with precision. MC PORK CHOP commentates on the track's structure, calling on KW GRIFF to "Bring In The Katz", referring to a quintessential scat sample from the proto-Ballroom classic "Din Da Da" by Kevin Aviance. "Katz" is the epitome of an endothermic club track - once those "katz" drop get ready for the walls to cave in. A Club Construction through and through. On the flip L-VIS 1990 gives us his dub mix. Stripping out the break and most of the vocals and focussing in on the hyper-rhythmic scat stab pattern of the original, L-Vis beefs up the bass and adds a cowbell to the equation. A simple process but a dramatic transformation that results in the most streamlined and effective pieces of club music we've heard in forever.
