it joins the other numbers and gets printed on a ledger
So the bookie can feel better, call himself a wealth creator.

The punter’s short of wonga so he finds himself a lender
Who can lend him wads of tenners where the interest is a fiver
the loan becomes a number in a chip in a computer
Where it joins the other numbers so the lender can feel better.
imagine all them fivers that came in from all the debtors!
So the numbers that got bigger in the chip in the computer
Make the lender feel convinced that he’s a mover and a shaker

And the numbers on the screen convince him he’s a wealth creator.

farmer farms much better so we hunger for no longer
And it’s cheaper to get fatter and the supermarket bosses
Are dictators of the prices so the farmer serves the banker
and the debt becomes a bigger, better number So the banker can feel stronger

And he assures his loving family that he’s a wealth creator.

One daughter of the banker wants to work on cures for cancer
But it’s not as good an earner, so she emulates her father
While her sister is the lawyer who forecloses on the farmer
When she could be funding cures for her mum or dad’s dementia.
staring at the future with a fear of age or tumours
While their daughters who’d be teachers or researchers or their doctors 
Move the money like a bookie and become a number counter
Chained to a computer persuading themselves, and us, 

that they’re the wealth creators.
