This was a fairytale destined for ruin and disaster. It had been a ruthless romance right from the start and now as they stood upon the edge of the forest, they held one anothers hands and proceeded to walk forward into the darkness. Soon they would each forget each others names, losing themselves between the tall trees and the old woods. The stars flickered delicately up above, it were as if they had gathered to watch the spectacle of love fall to pieces from a galaxy out there in the abyss. 

Casper Hastings is set to release a rip roaring EP on Yin Yang, a club ready affair destined to bang and bump on the dancefloor. This track is titled "Ruthless Romance" and pays homage to the hedonistic days of rave and hardcore. Wild breaks and a rumbling low end set this one off nicely.

The 9th release on Lisbon's dance agitators Rave Tuga is on the way: an EP, available on tape and digital by local mainstay DIOGO (https://soundcloud.com/diogo-vasconcelos-1), who's been loyally serving the dancefloors of Lisbon in the past few years via his sick DJing and productions. Recruits for the remixer role are other two legends of our scene: genius clubkid Ecstasya (https://soundcloud.com/ecstasya) and spot-on dance composer Moreno Ácido (https://soundcloud.com/morenoacido).

Acid and jacking flavours gladly meet again, with an added ray of local sunshine, on the opener 'Paz d'Alma'. The skillfully programmed 303 lines keep going throughout the album, on the A3 accompanied by a sick electro groove and emotional pads and some bleepy chill-packed vibes on the A4.

PREMIERE: Paul Allard – Yakruna [UnderRated Art Creations]

The best electronic music evokes feeling and inspires movement. We’re talking songs that make fans' hearts swell and call them to dance uninhibitedly. Meet Rino. A Melbourne-based composer who’s piecing records together that do just that. Born in Indonesia, Rino learnt the piano and sponged up records from an early age, thanks to his father’s career in jazz.
As a teenager, he gravitated towards alt-rock, forming ‘Aspectrum’, which
played huge festivals across the country. Most recently, Rino has submerged himself in electronic waters, creating gorgeous and forward-thinking soundscapes. Welcome to the producer’s debut body of work, Expanse. An extended play that both elevates and stretches the mind. The tonal elements employed by the Indonesian are intelligent, they leap and bound. For a first pass, this is something special.
The opener ‘Impulse’ is contemplative. A soothing roller made up of military-like drum patterns, saintly vocal sections and Yoshi-esque garble. As a first cut should, ‘Impulse’ inspires focus and jags attention.
Arriving next is the already live ‘Love Extract’. Beginning with shimmering chords and what sounds like an intense conversation between droplets of water, the Indonesian builds an effervescent sonic environment. Each and every note speaks to its successor, as the tune finds a meditative groove. A looping incomprehensible ad-lib adds yet another interesting layer as the
track climbs higher still.
Up third is ‘Bubbly (Did You Know)’. As the name suggests, this record fizzes along brutishly. Showing his versatility, Rino flips styles midway, transforming the piece into an acidic breaker.
‘W/O You’ is an emotive change of pace. Leaning into vocal harmonies from above the clouds, Rino takes listeners along a melancholic rainbow road. Hang tight for the ambient bridge, full of twinkling keys that’ll bring a tear to your eye.
Accompanying this stellar quartet comes a remix of ‘Impulse’ from Baby G. Stepping on the percussive pedal, this dark interpretation sounds like the perfect crescendo to any extended set. There’s a haunting aspect to this rethinking, as though strange spirits are on the chase. Naming the likes of Bonobo, John Hopkins and Four Tet as role models, Rino aims to craft
tracks that touch on visceral human emotions. Be it a state of sadness, reflection or euphoria, the composer asks listeners to find “value in the present moment.” Beautiful if you ask us.

Providing his debut for Ransom Note Records offshoot Insult To Injury, our fellow Amsterdammer and ECHOBOX radio DJ Oneven (a.k.a. Andrew Visser) offers up five pieces of electronic meatiness for our ravenous consumption. As a duel British/Dutch citizen, his electronic music heritage is strong and he draws on early IDM / Braindance methods to create a unique, trademark sound. With a huge passion for hardware, Oneven tries to keep the music as organic and honest as possible, mistakes and all.

Lead single (and synth master class) VM1S2RM springs out of the trap first, hurtling along at breakneck pace, peppered with curious bleeps, noises and percussion stabs, this IDM monster leaves little breathing room. Next up, M52t5, comes down a few gears and treats us to some laid back, electro tinged 808 beats and beautifully ethereal chords over the industrial, Kraftwerk-esque synth lines.

brrytmt takes us into another world completely, tugging at the heartstrings with its expressive, lofi chords, rolling over the top of some beautifully heavy, distorted beats. Tissue continues in that vein, more subdued machine sounds are juxtaposed to the frantic 707 rhythms and repeating vocal edit, conjuring up an eerily stunning scene.

Rounding off, we’re treated to more stirring, processed sounds with Dlaciebie. A sparse and precise piece of automaton music that invokes a certain sadness, proving once and for all that, machines do indeed have emotions...

Oneven - Dlaciebie [ITI#19]

Through some bracket fuckery, I somehow managed to brute force my way back into the main NGADM bracket after having technically lost in round 1. Because I've been gifted a second chance, I'm pulling out all the stops and going back to a classic style of mine - big, dramatic orchestra with an east-asian flourish. Overdone? Perhaps a little, but I love how it sounds and it's fun to write.

Here's a fun piece of trivia - the solo string instrument in this song could either be a Chinese Erhu or a Japanese Kokyū depending on your imagination, as they're both bowed string instruments and sound nearly identical. In fact, "kokyū" in Japanese can actually refer to any asian bowed string instrument - so you'd technically be correct either way.
