This set was inspired by Theme from S’Express:
Synth pop, filthy disco, Eurobeat and ballroom. 
As a sexual health educator and a queer person in general, I feel very strongly about the AIDS conversation, and particularly the fact that we will never know the talent of people we lost in the 80’s and beyond. 
Ultimately this is my version of a thank you to some of my favourite gay icons, like Lisa Minnelli, Eartha Kitt, and Christina La Veneno, who helped people stand proudly when it was hardest to be proud. They made space for people of all kinds to thrive and dance safely.

First line, and there’s that classical sax harmony, no question where this is taking us.

We’re talking soul, Motown, absolute heaven.

I haven’t got a full listing of the orchestra, but it sounds like a classic lineup – guitars, keys, bass, drums, brass and sax.

Their sounds is tight, balanced, and fluid, just as it should be.

Maddy’s voice complements this backing, providing a velvet tone.
Is that a clue to the name of the ensemble?

She has an excellent range, and sings strongly over that range.

In the song Maddy poses being lonely, against seeing the best in you.

She can still see the best, and for her there is no other.

It’s a beautiful sentiment, a beautiful line, but what if the best is not there.

It’s a wonderful thing to be young.

Velvet Bloom is a Melbourne based music project - foundered by Maddy Herbert.
Maddy is a story teller who uses her  jazz/ balled style vocals and soul/pop sound to bring her emotive lyrics to life.
Currently Maddy performs solo & with her live band; 'The Vito Collective'. 
The band has five members including, Anthony Rennick (bassist), Nic Morton (drummer),
Alex Marko (lead guitarist), Noah Hunter-Dorsey (keys/ backing vocalist) and Shani Turner (backing vocalist).
Velvet Bloom and the Vito Collective is an ambient/ jazz, soul fusion, with influences like Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones and Thirty Seventy  - Velvet Bloom is bound to keep you captivated.
