Hot vocals, banging drums, 90s energy - recorded live JoJo Baby's benefit show at Smartbar on December 3rd, 2022. This set is about reaching a new level of connection with your body on the dancefloor and was inspired by the Chicago venues that Jojo has brought to life throughout the years - particularly Shelter, Boom Boom Room, and Queen . Blending newer tracks with less-aired cuts from Dajae, Mystic Bill, Stacey Kidd, Spencer Kincy, and Frankie Knuckles.

Sexy, bitchy, clubby, housey, punk, and unmistakably queer - everything I hoped the opening hours of the first-ever Statement Piece at Smartbar would be when I asked Don Crescendo (@doncrescendo) to honor the inaugural residency with their Smartbar debut. This is the first recording in the Statement Piece mix series recorded live from my residency at Smartbar rather than the WNUR airwaves. More to come - thank you Don!

You’re coming down from the uncomfortable peak of an intense psychedelic trip in the ambient room at the rave, anxious for something to bring you back to earth. You gather the strength to seek a change of scenery and step outside and into the first hints of morning light - the reminder you needed that everything changes with time. It offers a glimpse of the other side of the peak. The beauty of the outside world shifts into focus with the warmth of the incoming day. You ride a wave of gratitude into the breaking dawn, making peace with the unknown.

Curator, archivist, and "data thief" girly*** (Jared Brown) opens up the floor for Laurel Halo with a mix that journeys from hypnotic deep house dubs into broken club and techno - incorporating live vocal elements and a call to action for Sudan/Congo/Palestine along the way. 

From the artist:
"girly*** is a DJ and performance alias born and currently based in Chicago. Bass, vocal samples, synths, vinyl and community allow girly*** to bend time and bridge gaps between genres bred in the Midwest, Baltimore, UK, the Tri-State area and cyberspace.
