Odissi, a genre of Odisha’s classical music, emphasizes rhythm, with a Natangi or dance-like element in the rendition, making one think of an agile, quick footed, graceful dancer.  Odissi vocal pieces showcase the coming together of poetry, rhythm, melody, and “rasa” (emotions) woven into a many-layered, subtle, and delicate sounding musical composition.

In this Odissi piece, written by Kabi Chandra Kalicharan Patnaik, Radha’s friend beseeches her, please Radha, Krishna implores you so much, at least this time pay heed!
