2022 has been a revealing year in so many ways. not only have i started a new duo music project “@GLOWSTONE” with @soberrob, which has been nothing but creatively liberating, but i am also gradually coming out of a producing hiatus for my own project. over these past few years, i’ve been suffocating myself with pressure, afraid to even touch ableton again, and am now learning how to finally let go and find experimentation in different dance genres. “SUGAR” is the launching pad for this next era of self-produced music and ideas, which i couldn’t be more eager to put out. 

with that being said, this year has also been revealing for the rest of us as a society; we’re still trying to process the holidays post-pandemic and an all-around new normal, there are the biggest social and womens’ rights movements happening across the world right now (hence the roe versus wade overturn reference). the weight of the world hit me hard as i was sick one week; i thought about the holidays coming up and what they would signify for certain groups and disconnected families, which prompted the first couple lines of “SUGAR”. 
 
while it is a love song at heart and reflects all the loves i’ve found over 2022, including producing, it also is a tribute to light in a dark world that is yearning to be better.

SUGAR

“CUFFED”  - one of the four singles leading up to my sophomore album “ANGEL OF SADNESS”, self produced and written by me. The whole project is a set of love songs, not only to people but to my head and heart. 

In light of May being mental health awareness month, CUFFED is the love child of whacky, whimsical sounds and . . . ha ha . . . severe mental illness :’) living with mental illness has been a painful life, especially with a diagnosis including the most stigmatized and misunderstood disorders, and it is something I am aiming to be more open/vocal about. I’ve been in a never ending battle trying to get better with treatment centers, psychiatrists, therapists, and medication cocktails for as long as I can remember, and falling back in not only love with a partner but with creating music again after a production hiatus has taken every ounce of mental jiu jitsu possible for someone like me!! however, I’ve never felt more creatively liberated than I do now that my brain is set on the right path and in recovery, and this project truly celebrates getting out of the artistic rut I’ve been in for so many years.

It was something I absolutely experienced when I was new to dating my boyfriend after being hospitalized for mental illness in 2018. For months I had a mindset that I should just be left alone/abandoned, as a fair punishment for being this way & too challenging to handle. I’ve always been a chronic cynic however when I wrote this song, I was at a point in my life where I was committed to ‘finding home soon’, which equates to help and a support system finally.” - Madi
