A community garden project at Barrett Brothers Park in north St. Louis prompts memories of the Barrett family, who came to Missouri as Irish famine refugees. They became homestead farmers on the Missouri frontier. When some of their offspring moved back to St. Louis, they became grocers. And then those refugees lost six of their great-grandsons to World War II. Barrett Brothers Park was a memorial to two of these young men.
