For our 53rd release, we have a smooth debut release from South African artist, Torpedo (SA). His EP, ‘Says’ is a real treat for anyone that favors the more subtle and sincere elements of melodic House music. On remix duties, we invited Berlin-based artist Quirin, who we also welcome to Ambious Records for the very first time.

First up, ‘Arrows’ - a laid back progressive house offering that will catch the listener in a pleasant way. It opens up with atmospheric pads and slowly gains momentum with a bouncy groove and deep kick. A beautiful piano cadence sits on top of each bass note, this in turn drives the track forward in a subtle way. The stabs add a nice atmospheric feel to the overall texture. The final result is a track that is truly beautiful and very well-crafted.

The title track, ‘Says’ starts off with a bang, shimmering hats, a synth shot and a thumping low tom sets the tone of what will be a great story. A very powerful and relaxed harmonic piano cadence sits on top of the bass line and it is complemented by some more passing notes that blend throughout the track. Trippy and stabby effects add some tension to the tune - expect a track that will really sit well on the dance floor.  

Up next, ‘Sailing’ sees a deeper vibe taking over the stage. It starts with a meaner and tougher groove coupled with a rhythmic stabby element, from there a strong and thick bass line comes into play. A lovely chord sequence on top of the bass line carries the track. The tune builds and builds whilst opening up into something that is dramatic and story driven. During the breakdown a pitched stab effect is filtered in and sets up the second half the track. The track comes back with a bang as a syncopated bass line takes center stage. The listener is then taken on a final stroll and the track comes to a satisfying conclusion. 

We wrap things up with another debutant who hails from Berlin, Quirin takes on the task of remixing ‘Says.’ His remix centered around a prominent 4/4 groove. A very nice synth line sets the stage for what is to come. The bass line has a growl to it and throws in a bit of dirt on the track, supported by well placed snare fills at various points in the arrangement. This remix is a little darker and brings the release to a solid conclusion.

Ivan Nikusev also known as Kandar, is a Macedonian producer and label manager, who defines himself as а DJ of the old school sound of Progressive House music. Deep and strong bass lines, combined with melodic and techno elements, are something what you can hear in his sets. In 2011 he founded his own label OLD SQL Recordings, which got a huge support by many great producers and top DJs in the world, and since then it released more than 600 releases and has more than 900 different artists.

With his experience as a radio DJ since 2006, with radio shows and guest sets on many radio stations from all over the world, he also started sharing his energy and good music with the people on the dance floors. He has played in many clubs and festivals in his own country but also and abroad in different venues in Greece, Bulgaria, Bosnia, USA, Czech Republic, Turkey ..

His tracks have been played and supported internationally by so many major DJs, and also more than a hundred producers have made a remix on some of his tracks, or had any other collaboration with him, that proves his quality of music over the years.

Starting from 2008, he has a hundreds of releases on plenty of different labels, including some on Perfecto Records, JOOF Recordings, JOOF Aura, Enhanced Music [Armada], Green Martian, Bonzai Progressive, Mistique Music, Outta Limits, Balkan Connection, Contrast Records, Fatali Music, System Recordings, Droid9, Welcome Music etc.. and of course on his own label OLD SQL Recordings. From 2019 under his new alias Kandar, he started releasing music and for other labels such as Sudbeat Music, Controlled Substance, onedotsixtwo, Natura Viva, 3rd/Sound Avenue, Capital Haven, Freegrant Music, Another Life Music, BC2 Records, Bevel Rec, Electronic Tree, Forward Music, Revolt Music, Symmetric Records …

Midi Minds Kenya in conjunction with The Safari Collection, Backdrop Agency & Madorasindahouse travelled to Samburu National Conservancy to capture and highlight the musical identity of the Samburu warriors, women and children, in the form of a song based sample pack, a documentary format video, and a Various Artists music compilation (VA). 
This project is set out to raise awareness, financial ability and cultural highlight towards the Samburu tribe and community, through using selected Recordings for the production of this 19-track compilation. It features productions by Laolu, Armonica, Da Capo, Caiiro, Shimza, Sifa, Umami, KEENE, Klement Bonelli, XtetiQsoul and many more, as well as local Kenyan talent, such as Suraj, Saint Evo, Foozak & Dylan-S. 
After visiting the Westgate area of Samburu, and discussions with the community leaders, we found the most common day to day issue they face is lack of educational infrastructure. We firmly believe that this is a cause worth advocating for.
The community is not able to establish a sustainable educational system and that is why part of the proceedings will go towards building a class-room in the primary school and provide sustainable contributions to the teachers fund. The whole process will be part of a documentary that will be released along with the Compilation, in an event held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 30th of November 2019.

Amine K is Morocco’s ambassador for electronic music. Amine’s self prescribed job description is to put a smile on people’s faces by sharing his music, be that as a DJ or through his productions, happiness is at the core of everything he does.

We connect with Amine when he played at our 12 years of Akbal Music in Tulum at the beautiful Boa, afterwards an instant collaboration was born with Akbal Music and for now we are very happy to welcome him on the label with Keya his stunning single.

Keya the original track delivers pumping drums, hypnotic synths and effected vocal snippets to create a nice vibe on the end, played and tested at the Bolier Room Dubai , this track is a serious banger.

On the flip side Animal Trainer from Zurich brings up a juicy organic re interpretation of the original, bringing things down to a more festival high vibe with a breakdown with lots of action. This package is coming from strength to strong.
