Today we come to you with a lil special love nugget. This is a track we put together sometime ago and have been playing it in more intimate and cosy gatherings. It's our re-interpretation of a track called Goin' Bad from Soul Keita released on the marvellous Other People imprint back in 2010. Soul Keita is an artist we've been inspired by over the years and our curiosity has led us to really soak up every single piece he has released. Other than what remains of his music under this alias, he's been traceless for years.

Our beloved duo @Madota is back on Saisons with their first original EP. A project that embodies a pivotal chapter for them after a long time apart on different sides of the world. After experiencing humanity on pause from different coordinates, Behnam and Mehran finally reunited in Berlin, picked up the energy where they left off and dove straight into the studio with a new approach to their creative process.

In the light of everything happening in their motherland of Iran, they feel more called than ever to celebrate their heritage. In this 2-track EP, you can feel Madota’s roots. It’s a voyage into their past that taps into the energies and the stories of where they come from…and it only feels like the beginning.

'Roobah' is playful with colorful roots. The duo created this track from blending piano pieces of Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou - an Ethiopian nun who they grew up to love, mixed with Ahmad Shamloo’s audio recreation of "The Little Prince". The audio tapes and CDs of Shamloo’s work became illegal after the Islamic Revolution.

The result of this sonic painting is a celebration of both stories in a deep and jazzy groove with warm soulful harmonies. Dusty and playful. An ode to life and freedom.

'Del' is the darker and deeper track of the pair. The groove is rooted in a dense and weighed down rhythm coupled with shreds of dusty pianos. Behnam’s voice guides the story, singing 'Del' which means ‘Heart’ in farsi. The lyrics come from an old persian poem that goes something like:

O heart, if you love
Seek comfort
In the heart of day and night

The track embodies Madota’s overflow of emotions that come up in reviving their relationship with their roots while also honoring the courage of their people in their fight for freedom.

A part of the proceeds from this release will go to support families in Iran.

Another year, another pilgrimage to Garbicz. But this time was an extra special one. Just an hour before our set the sky burst open and it started pouring nonstop. Yet given all the chaos, the confusion and the mud deep deep in the forest we all just vibed, danced and frolicked together. The only thing that really mattered in the moment was music and music only. That is a feeling that will be engraved on our hearts forever. Much love to everyone there.

Madota is the musical lovechild of urban shepherds Behnam & Mehran. Iranian by birth, Canadian by upbringing, these two have come a long way from their own journeys before reuniting in Berlin.

Realistically they didn't start playing the ukulele at the tender age of 3 nor did they buy their first drum machine when they were graduating from kindergarten. BUT what we know is that their deeply rooted love for electronic music led them to storm Vancouver's nightlife as DJs since 2011 which in turn prepared them to start their experimentation with making music that pulls influences from their hyphenated backgrounds. Their music captures their lust for soulful sounds coupled with their itch for darker forward-leaning grooves.

Their music has already taken them to perform numerous times in legendary gatherings such as Katerblau in Berlin, OFF Sónar in Barcelona and Woomoon in Ibiza.

They continue to nurture their lovechild in Berlin with upcoming releases on labels such as Get Physical Music, Kindisch, Wannabe A Frog, and Saisons.

We truly felt the OG-ness of this festival through its organisation and curation, and stepping onto the Sonnendeck stage was a career high moment for us. A HUGE thank you to our brother @armenmiran for inviting us to release on The Buddha Bar compilations this year!

This track is one of our first ever completed projects and is deeper than what we usually produce but it comes from an obsession we’ve had with ‘kamancheh’ which is a traditional Iranian bowed string instrument. So ‘Silent City’ is our interpretation around a beautiful piece written by Mr. Kalhor who is one the best musicians in Iran. <3

We met Patrick (Lost Desert) and Sandra on a sunny spring afternoon in Brooklyn on the day we were playing for the ZERO Masquerade! and one thing was crystal clear from that point onwards: they are the type of people you feel like you've known deeply for many lifetimes. over and over.

Amidst all the noise around the world right now we come to you with a heavy dose of tranquility.

‘Elegy' is a piece that comes from deep origins. While working on an organic and cozy groove back in 2013, we somehow parked this project realizing we need the right voice and words with it. Fast forward 5 years later to Garbicz festival and somehow we meet Sarïta on the very last day, realizing she had been tenting next to us the whole time! As soon as we all jived into one unit, we knew she was the essence we had been waiting for to finish what we had started. One day after the festival finishes, we run to our studio in Holzmarkt Berlin and the rest is history.

Feeling quite inverted. flipped. reversed and pulled. fleshed out. kind of as if we're suspended in some virtual space that is starting to feel more n more real.

We left Berlin to go on tour last August and we still haven't found our way back to living in the same city. Torn away by personal tragedies and unforeseen stories. All with a dose of corona as the cherry on top. It's been difficult but in some ways we are feeling more inspired than ever.

Today our inversion is reaching new peaks as Behnam is heading to the base and his love in Berlin and I am working and spending time with my beloved in nature before finding my way back also.

During this time musically we've focused on giving proper love to each of our releases. But now we come to you with a longly overdue set that clinches a moment of where our hearts and minds have been. So take it all in and lean in. Much love from both of us to you.

Today we share with you an old yet special project for us. Similar to our love for humans like Gil Scot Heron, Jimmi Hendrix and folk heroes from our home country of Iran in our music, Chavela Vargas has always been another source of genius for us. Celebrated for her 'rough voice of tenderness' and her haunting performances, she was (is) a true powerhouse of a woman. In one of her songs she says (translated):

'I'm not from here, nor from there
I have no age, nor future
and being happy is the color
of my identity'
.
Her words are visceral. Given our hyphenated backgrounds with Eastern roots coupled with a Western upbringing her words became our medicine. Given this, we had to make our interpretation of her song which we've played live and in our online sets. Today is the day we share this project with you.
