Sooo, this is improv #1! This improv was in collaboration with Jarrah Purcell-Smith. 

Began this on 18.07.21 and decided it was finished enough to be half-finished.

For those of you who know me, this is one that is well outside my wheelhouse, but I decided to explore this clubby sound this time round.

Improv #1

IMPROV #2!! Hoooooballooooo....who knows what that means? 

This one's a little funky. 

Background:
[Insert solo when directed]: I ceebs making a longer solo so I left it blank lol.

This was actually my first ever 'improv' that I did last month. The first version of this song was done in just one hour! But then I thought better and decided to make it betterer.

I've added some 'interesting' vocals in there to spice things up a little and to lighten up the song a little ahaha.

I really loved making this track as it involved fusing many of my favourite genres (Funk, classical, electronic (?), rock etc etc).

Improv #2: Hoobaloo

This one's a slow burn, just wait till 1:20 or so!

Background:
I'd really like to say that I intended for this to sound like the sound track to a movie with Hans Zimmer, Interstellar vibes, but I didn't really.

I just began experimenting with making wind noises (haha, pun) and some other new sounds, and this is what happened!

A bit of inspiration came from Balinese Gamelan with its kotekan hocketing and displacement of the beat. The other parts were probably subconsciously influenced by all the soundtracks I've heard over the years, and probably recent excessive netflixing of space-themed shows.

Once again blessed to showcase an original @5smackeroonies for the track artwork! The aliens are just beautiful haha.

Improv #3: What's out there?

When you need study music but don't like Spotify

Background:
Last week, I wasn't feeling particularly motivated to write my 15k word thesis and wasn't feeling creative either. So with this pickle in mind, I decided to make a study track to do something creative that would motivate myself to write...two birds and whatnot.

This track is inspired by the many lofi playlists that I've listened to over the years. The solo took about 50 takes but I got there (kind of). Apologies to those who play jazz...I tried my hardest.

All in all, I'm still vibing with this track and listening to it on loop has made me write 2k+ words in 3 days, so I'm pretty happy with how everything worked out!

Artwork is of course by @5smackeroonies. I picked this one because they're looking just so chill strolling along in the clouds, which I feel is the vibe of this track.

Improv #4a: Lofi vibes

Just a version of Improv #4a without my solo to distract you from the vibes.

Easier to study to this one.

Improv #4b: Sololess lovely lofi

We made a song in 2 weeks! Chill RnB vibes.

Background:

This time round, I decided to team up with the talented @sunnyshamis, the vocalist from our band @solarcoasterband.

I made the beat quite quickly and as soon as I felt like it was going toward the RnB route, I knew I had to go to Shamis because she loves the genre. Within a few hours, I made the beat and the next day, Shamis came back with the awesome lyrics/melody that you hear in the song! Absolutely incredible.

The next stage was obviously mixing and mastering vocals + instrumental, which is something I definitely don't have experience in. So, the mix is quite rough, but I was so excited by this song that I wanted to share the rough version with ya'll! And hey, the philosophy of this channel was never to present completely polished tracks anyway!
