New York is not just called the city that never sleeps. No, not tormented residents of metropolitan mass insomnia. Just in many night clubs where you can have fun relax and meet interesting people. In the nineties the club capital of the world was not London or Berlin. It was the city of New York - with the best clubs, DJs, personalities and unique scene. In the early to mid-90s, New York was the epicenter of all the events in the house music. But as time passed - the streets are clean, the clubs are gone, the labels have been stymied, music stores are closed. Some key names are still on the ear, but it is rather solated cases. However, recently things have changed. The city has a striking symbiosis of the most diverse cultures and be able to choose something different - this is fine, but when you live there, can not even imagine how you spoiled it. We can say that at this time it was a common concern of actors rounding sharp corners created by globalization, which runs at a frantic pace. After all, in terms of prospects for the city has to offer huge opportunities and a rich tradition. It's pretty quiet that allows you to concentrate on the music without clogging your head challenges like something eternally disgruntled neighbors. Today in our podcast, we map the underground vibrations are felt in this town. We're talking about the legendary nightclubs and music that plays here. Touching on punk territory as early as 1969, The Stooges’ 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' captured the beginnings of the transformation from the optimistic sixties to the disaffected seventies and laid the foundations for the next generation’s sound. Raw and simplistic, yet extremely powerful - it’s incredible to think that this song has been around for forty-six years.

The idea to bring the proto-punk classic into the now with a dance version - aimed at festival audiences as well as the clubs - was one of those crazy notions that somehow works out perfectly, given the right ingredients that is. Kermit was initially skeptical of the idea but once he heard the framework of the reimagined version, he quickly signed up to the idiosyncratic vision and took on the Iggy Pop role with aplomb.

This is the first solo release by Kermit Leveridge of Blind Arcade, one of Manchester’s true groove innovators; helping give the city - and the country for that matter - one of its first breakdancing crews, Broken Glass before becoming a member of one the UK’s most influential hip hop acts, the Ruthless Rap Assassins, then eventually hooking up with Happy Monday Shaun Ryder to form the chart topping Black Grape, who’ve recently reformed for an anniversary tour.

Kermit’s heroin addiction may have taken him to the brink of self- destruction but during recent years he’s been a redeemed man on an artistic mission. This newfound outlook helped yield last year’s mixtape 'Blind Arcade Meets Super Weird Substance In The Morphogenetic Field', regenerating his association with Greg Wilson, who had previously managed Broken Glass and the Rap Assassins, who he also produced.

On the back of a whole series of quality reworks, including Blind Arcade’s The Construct, Wolverhampton based DJ and musician Peza was brought into the mix and has done a great job with programming / keyboards, whilst Greg’s son, Ché Wilson plays a mean guitar, summoning the raw energy of punk’s past in a furious solo courtesy of a Cort X-6 guitar given to Kermit by Joe Strummer - and, by adding their deadpan backing vocals to the fray, The Reynolds tie the track together perfectly.

Here the label returns with yet another hard hitting various artists package, with the likes of PMR’s No Artificial Colours, Bontan, Circus’s Yousef and Leftwing & Kody all delivering brand new exclusive material for the comp.
In true MadTech fashion the ‘03’ compilation offers up an array or raw, dance floor focused house cut ranging from the hypnotic and infectious grooves of Rockaforte’s ‘Hyper Muzik’ and Lupe Fuentes & Javi Lopez’ ‘To Perfection’, through to more direct house workouts from Max Chapman, No Artificial Colours, Bontan and Rich Wakley.

Montel takes things into old school realms with the organ drenched ‘Horizons’, SEFF and Kashii bring a bassy edge to things with skippy and pitched vocal chops, while Demarzo and Fabricio Pecanha tip the focus into darker realms with a more progressive, electronic focus. All in all MadTech once again deliver fourteen essentials tracks for the current climate of modern electronic music.

Citizenn is the moniker of London (via Nottingham) based artist Laurence B. Taking his name from a passing visual reference in the Manga film Akira Citizenn originally arrived via releases on MadTech, the label owned by New Jersey house don Kerri Chandler. Within a year, after singles on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks, 20/20 Vision as well as on the label extension of Love Fever, his favourite underground party, Citizenn had been named DJ Magazine’s Breakthrough DJ of 2013. 

As the musical journey continued, 6 am stints at Berlin's infamous Panorama Bar and a globe-trotting diary taking him from Japan, Tulum, Kiev and everywhere in between, he distilled all these new experiences into his debut LP on Damian Lazarus’s ever-influential Crosstown Rebels imprint. The album entitled 'Human Interface' dealt with themes of human intersectionality with our mechanical counterparts through a tapestry of the tightly wound house and techno influenced an EP, the records receiving national radio play and praise from his peers. Citizenn has been a mainstay at popular Ibiza hotspots such as DC10, Blue Marlin and Sankeys for the quickly growing Abode brand of which he has also released with.

Citizenn has found a clarity of vision within the circus that is life as a successful musician.
