"Sonic the Hedgehog" is a beloved soundtrack with uplifting vibes and sunny, cheerful melodies that continue to make fans smile decades after the original release on the Sega Genesis. 

I wanted to flesh out these songs with full-fledged expansions for the enjoyment of Sonic the Hedgehog fans around the globe. This is my take on the original soundtrack, with entirely new sections to theorize what might have been if original composer Masato Nakamura had more time, better hardware, and more storage capacity. As always, EVERY song in the soundtrack has been painstakingly recreated from the ground up, note-for-note. No sampling, no rips, no stems.

The long wait is finally over! It's time for another soundtrack project, and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG has taken the stage. I wanted to get this soundtrack done early for two purposes. First, many of you have been clamoring for me to tackle this project (I see you, Nikos!) and two, I wanted to use it to drive more growth to the channel. 

This soundtrack is going to come fast, as I already have all the expansions in my head, but I wanted to take time to get the Title Theme down correctly, to set the tone moving forward. This includes not only the soundtrack, but my decision to jump onto Twitter (now X, love it or hate it), and a push for more Subscribers and Patreon supporters....IF they are inclined n' kind, so to do! I appreciate all the support. Let's jump into a brand new project and have some fun.

"Green Hill Zone" is the song that SONIC THE HEDGEHOG fans remember most vividly from the original game. Not only did it start the game off on a high and happy note, but it also set the tone for what followed. I wanted to play up the happy themes in this song tenfold with the expansions, which are designed to constantly reference back to the original song, while still feeling unique unto themselves.

Green Hill Zone (Expanded & Enhanced) • SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

"Robotnik" is the act-end boss theme featuring the titular villain, officially known as Eggman in the original Japanese release. I hit some writer's block with this one, which forced me to scale back my vision for the song. The expansion attempts to play up the cartoon-evil theme of the original with some dark synths and military-style triplet snares in an attempt to portray Robotnik as a fascistic supervillain. Did I succeed? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

"Marble Zone" is a rather somber, yet energetic little number that sets the feel for stage 2, but I wanted to build up the momentum and energy to give it a more lively feel. My expansion plays upon the original track with variance, before slipping into a happy-go-lucky middle section that keeps building more and more, until the song dives back into the darker-sounding territory of the stock track. I like how it bounces back between light and dark, simulating how Sonic might have felt when he was dealing with traps and perils underground, all in an effort to make it to the surface for a breath of fresh air.

"Spring Yard Zone" slowed down the kinetic soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog with a more reserved number focusing on a chill groove. I wanted to play this up, while adding a bit more power, courtesy of my expanded section. I wanted the song to keep going back to the two main sections of the original song, while flanking them with new material that takes the listener down a more soulful path.

"Labyrinth Zone" is a fun and lighthearted song that helped balance out the stress of one of Sonic the Hedgehog's most stressful levels. When the titular hero goes underwater, we're all a little bit thankful that the music is so cheery. I wanted to play that up with my expansion, which didn't deviate too far from the original. Some light trance elements are thrown in to keep the groove breezy and positive.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Attack The Barbarian" is a ruthless track that is offset by funky club dance elements pertinent to the early 1990s electronic scene. I wanted to expand on Yuzo Koshiro's aggressive boss theme with a more fleshed out take that adds to the menace of the original track, without detracting from its impact.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - When I originally tackled "Dilapidated Town," I wanted to make it more groovy and accessible, as I felt the original was a bit too "bippity-boppity" with its PSG chip elements. Some piano here, an appropriately simplistic saxophone there, and voila...an expansion that compliments the original, while sounding totally unique unto itself.

🔥FINAL CRASH UPDATE / Oct. 25/23🔥 - "Moon Beach" is one of my most favorite Streets of Rage tunes, and it's a brilliant example of Yuzo Koshiro's musical expressionism. My take on it sought to build the most naturally-sounding expansion onto the original song as possible, while building up the momentum to unbearably awesome heights. I believe I've achieved that, and I couldn't be happier with it.
