We are proud to introduce our new signature : the french band DopeGems. These guys play real jazz-funk with an hip hop attitude. As their band name says, they only play cover of Dope… gems. Rare tracks of the late 70′s and early 80′ from OST or  valuable vinyl.

Following their acclaimed first 7inch “Journey to the shore” (supported by Gilles Peterson, Nik Weston, Lefto, Gerald Jazzman, Melting Pot, soul spectrum…), the band comes with their second EP.

Born and raised in Paris, the half German half Algerian producer is one the most exciting new jacks on the German beatmaker scene. At the age of 23, Midan has already released a bunch of albums for renowned labels like Casual Low Grind, Mutombo Records and Beat Jazz International.

Berlin and Paris based producer Bluestaeb releases new single "Mind" - the first taste of new album Everything Is Always a Process, out via tastemaker label Jakarta Records later this year.

Featuring the vocals of NZ artist Noah Slee and Australia's multi-disciplinary artist MAÏA, "Mind" is an infinitely soulful duet which showcases all three of the artists in their own right. Groove, beats, a subdued neo-soul sensibility, and melodic adlibs place Bluestaeb alongside acts such as Eric Lau, Kaytranada

Originally started in 2015, the track found its soulmate when Bluestaeb and Noah met at a show in Stuttgart in 2016 and started sending beats back and forth.

"Noah did a first version of the song and then invited MAÏA to join and bring another dimension to the track."

In "Mind", Bluestaeb's influences shine through, while taking on a sound of their own at the same time. The second part of the beat includes a little reference to one of his favourite tracks by The Roots, bringing more live instrumentation, with slick guitar licks and keys taking the original beat into a more mature space.

Bastard Jazz is proud to present the new EP from Vancouver's AstroLogical, also known as one half of production duo Potatohead People. With a long list of collaborations outside of the group ranging from Pomo, Phife Dawg, Illa J and DJ Khalil - Astro's new EP "Private World" resides somewhere in between jazz, soul, ambient and future electronic vibes with it's lush keys, chunky breaks, and deep musicality. 

Nate Drobner aka. AstroLogical is a multi-instrumentalist producer/composer based in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. 
After releasing a number of solo instrumental hip-hop projects through the net label Jellyfish Recordings in the early 2010’s under the AstroLogical alias, he had began focusing his energy on the producer duo Potatohead People; a collaborative project with his old friend Nick Wisdom, eventually getting noticed signed by Brooklyn-based record label Bastard Jazz in 2012 (with the help of Nightmares On Wax). Their 2018 full-length sophomore album ‘Nick & Astro’s Guide To The Galaxy’ was released to great acclaim and led them to be invited to Jazzy Jeff’s annual Playlist Retreat alongside such luminaries as Lord Finnese, Young Guru, and Pharaohe Monch.
