"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.

There’s not a lot out there about our next contributor - Athens resident Benjha - he let’s his music speak for him. Creating a diverse range of sounds, with references taken from pretty much everywhere. I was first introduced to his music through a number of tracks up on his soundcloud, but really took notice when I heard his mix for Moustache Music (which was probably my favourite mix of 2015). It was here I could hear his amazing ability to combine multiple genres into a beautiful and emotionally charged whole. That's not to take away anything from his production either, his output this year has been remarkable.

I spoke with him about producing a mixtape for us and am pretty damn thrilled to present the 12th Métron Musik Mixtape. As full of surprises and unexpected turns as ever, Benjha has crafted an eclectic story told across a huge array of influences and eras. Over and hour of music jam packed with great tunes, including his own productions and some traditional Greek music and all tied together as neatly as has come to be expected with Benjha’s work. This really is a mixtape for all music lovers.

There’s plenty more to come too, having just released on Nico Jaar’s 'Other People’ imprint we fully expect to see the producer continue to flourish in 2016.
