Sedna, She Who Dwells Beneath the Waves
In the icy confines of the Arctic, where the wind sings in ancient tongues and icebergs float like wandering spirits, lived Sedna, daughter of the earth and the sky. Her hair was as long as the sea currents, and her eyes reflected the sadness of the abyss.
One day, Sedna was promised in marriage to a stranger who claimed to be a man, but was in fact a bird-spirit in disguise. He took her to a distant island, where the sky never slept and the sea roared endlessly. There, Sedna discovered the truth: her husband was cruel, and her home was a prison of feathers and deceit.
Desperate to rescue her, her father sailed through storms to bring her back. But the bird-spirit pursued them, and in the chaos, the father, fearing for her life, threw Sedna into the sea. She clung to the side of the kayak, pleading, but he cut off her fingers one by one.
Each finger that fell into the sea transformed into a sea creature: seals, whales, walruses… Sedna sank into the depths, transformed into a goddess of the ocean, guardian of the sea animals.
Since then, Inuit shamans invoke her in dreams, combing her hair in rituals to calm her fury and ask permission to hunt. Because Sedna does not forget. She hears the echo of injustices, and her heart, though frozen, still beats with the memory of pain and transformation.
