Dam Swindle’s Lars Dales welcomes PBR Streetgang to deliver the second release on his newly minted 10 Questions imprint, with the UK favourites revealing their slick three-track ‘Dayskipper’ EP. Launched earlier this year, 10 Questions welcomes a brand-new label to the world and a new home for quality productions across the electronic sphere. The brainchild of Dam Swindle’s Lars Dales and graphic designer Bas Koopmans, the Amsterdam-based imprint introduces a new concept drawing from each individual artist’s unique characteristics and traits, with the answers to the ten questions presented via visual form across the release’s artwork and sleeve – ensuring that both music and art co-exist in the same creative realm. Following on from an impressive first release, 10 Questions now ventures deeper into Italo territory as they welcome one of the scene’s longest-running duos, PBR Streetgang. Known for their big dancefloor tracks across both house and disco, this latest EP sees the pairing once again serve up a quality offering as they deliver the label’s sophomore release, ‘Dayskipper’. 

Title track ‘Dayskipper’ opens proceedings and sets the mood as 707 drum programming and rolling Italo basslines meet catchy synth hooks and choir stabs to drive the theme home. Combine those elements with the ominous, well- crafted chords which cut through the production like a knife through butter and you’re left with a slick and powerful lead track perfect for the dancefloor. Next, the duo draw from early house influences whilst fusing contemporary soundscapes on ‘Knockout’, weaving playful ‘Moog’ style basslines with infectious vocal hits and resonant piano hooks, plus a pinch of hip-house to deliver a slick effort and the perfect recipe for a good time. 

On the flip, third track ‘Chi-Lite’ takes full hold of the B- Side as they unveil a dreamy proto-house offering with syncopated stabs and DX7-style bells masterfully shifting from floating moments to driving, dancefloor energy within a matter of minutes.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: “First, we can't say that there was any recognition of electronic music in France from the start. The first people who imported it were a couple of English promoters who organized a party at the Rex Club. It was the very first house and techno night with gay people that fell in love with this music, and helped to develop it in France, in clubs and then in raves.
This is a bit strange to say that, but I think that France is not a country that likes to dance. There was an explosion of disco in France, but it was still very much confined to the gay scene. At the time, even if we had a very large panel of jazz music, France is not a country of black music, we were more into rock'n'roll. And it's the same for techno music when it arrived in France. There was something very hostile from the tabloids and the right-thinking people in music who saw it as something subversive, something for fags, blacks, or drug addicts. Even before that, there was already a sort of hostility towards musicians in France. Because we were in a period where instrumental music was not yet accepted. The only ones who had done it were Jean-Michel Jarre or Cerrone, but they were seen as people who did strange things. 
Here is another example from my experience: when we released “Acid Eiffel” with Shazz on Fnac Music, we quickly realized that the record didn't sell well. A few months later, Derrick May came to the Rex Club, we played “Acid Eiffel”, he fell in love with the track and released it on Transmat. And since then, it's been a hit just because it was legitimized on a foreign label.
The first people who really started to make people talk about the French scene, were Daft Punk, Motorbass, all these people who were labelled as “French Touch” artists. Until then, there had never been any in-depth articles on French music. But there was a moment when journalists in England found themselves with a pile of "French Touch" records and they decided to talk about it. It’s only after this, that it exploded in France, whereas it was seen very strangely before.
So yes, we don't really pay attention to our own scene. The Belgians pay a lot of attention to their own scene, and they're proud of it because they were there from the beginning. The English, the Germans pay a lot of attention to their own scene. But not the French. An artist who hasn't exploded abroad, necessarily, in France, he won’t be seen as a successful artist, whereas we should listen to him and be proud of it.
On the other hand, there is something about the music we defend that is fundamentally international. And I think that we have nothing to envy from the others for a long time. There is a kind of renaissance of this music that is made in Paris and everywhere in France. There is a new scene that could be qualified as “French Touch”, but which is not musically - it would be too reductive - because they have completely digested and assimilated the roots of house music and made it their own.
In the end, if this music was fundamentally shitty as the press and the right-thinking people said 30 years ago, then why do we still see 18-year-olds kids listening and dancing to it today? It still resonates with people, and it proves that it wasn't just another new movement that arrived from England and that it would fade away after six months. Today we shouldn't be ashamed of what we produce and listen in terms of house and techno music in France.”

Chat Noir Rec. is very proud to announce the forthcoming release of the second volume of its House de France compilation. This new project will include 16 exclusive titles in digital and will be accompanied by the release of a "Vinyl Sampler ”which will include 6 titles from the digital version. Tracklisting is inspired by the 90s mixed compilation’s model: it is built like a DJ set with an evolution and coherent sequences between the tracks.

The project aims to show the diversity of the new French house scene by highlighting different sub-genres of this movement: ambient, deep-house, tech-house, acid, minimal,italo-disco, electrofunk… The artists present on this compilation represent the future of our scene and we are very proud to push them forward.
