BLEEDING FINGERS CONTEST ENTRIES

I've kept only 3-4 stems from the master Hans Zimmer! The rest i've composed & i've played on duduk, bulgarian kaval, voice, djembe, rainstick, saxophone & flute! The trumpets & flugelhorn was played by my great friend & colleague @stefiolariu . The mixing & mastering was done by my great friend @steve-brookfield .The song has a story. It goes like this:
 "...Imagine the whole sky full of stars over the African Desert ... where an African Mganga ( shaman) shares each of us thru his knowledge...Our Origins, The Meaning of Love & Forgivness...everything happening near by a Fire...the Fire from our Souls & at the end he will pray...for Earth! Hymn for Destiny - Bleeding Fingers Contest

So many great writers entering this competition! Here is my first version. Stems used: Percussion, Solo Trumpet, Solo Vocal. Started off by trying out the rhythm of the percussion motif over a different time signature and developed in to what I would imagine an exploration or an adventure around the globe to sound like. I think the vocal track lends itself well to a powerful piece of music (like the original).

Planet Earth (Bleeding Fingers)

Stems: Percussion, Trumpet, Synth. Kept the melody for the opening but tried a softer, contrasting vocal melody for a rejoicing and victorious post-war atmosphere.

Fallen Hero (Bleeding Fingers)

- A laid back, ambient electro take on Hans Zimmers theme. Re-arranged chords, sampled lots of FX like piano knocks/hammers or reversed guitar swells to create atmospheric elements, used gamalan tones, sub bass (forget it laptop speakers!), custom made drum kit.

Stargaze_Bleeding Fingers Contest

Audio Clips Courtesy of Hans Zimmer and SoundWorks Collection. Okay, so this was just a bit of fun / tongue-in-cheek etc... Wanted to do a version like this for a while but was unsure how to 'frame' it. I just thought "Composers like to sample a lot of stuff, I wonder if anyone has ever sampled a composer?". Stems used: Brass, Percussion, Solo Vocal, Piano/Bell/Harp, Trumpet. As well as using the original stems, I've replayed the musical ideas using different sounds too - whether or not you happen to notice them amongst the chaos, I don't know! :)

Stems used: Trumpet. Once again, can't really explain this one - wanted to do a purely orchestral version this time, but developing the theme in to something quite  harmonically different from the original (and who doesn't love the sound of a duduk!)

Whistling Dream

Though he was quite exhausted after yet another difficult day at work, Chad laid down on his well-worn but comfy couch, fighting the descent into dream world. He had always resisted drifting off because he worried that he might miss something while he slept. However, sleep came quickly as he melted into the cushions.Very soon he awoke and went outside into the hot, dry desert air. Waiting there for Chad was his older brother Todd. Something was strange. Todd was carrying a very large musical instrument over his shoulder, and was surrounded by a sizable crowd. "What's that you're carrying?", Chad asked his brother. Todd replied, "It's a special double bass. It's on loan from the Pig Mammoths. Well, actually, they don't know that I have it, but it will be nice to use this one to practice on while we're in Reptilia. I'll bring it back to them later." Todd showed
him that this bass had an extension on the lowest string, to allow him to play even lower notes on this already low, earthy-sounding instrument! Though Todd's response only caused more confusion, Chad then noticed that it wasn't a crowd of people behind Todd at all! In fact, they resembled lizards standing upright on two feet, like people, but with tails, colorful scales, and long alligator-shaped heads. Staring wide eyed at his brother, Chad asked "Who are, what are, ah, who are they?" Todd replied, "We're in Reptilia, Little Brotha. Haven't you been paying attention?" Chad's attention was diverted before he was able to ask any more questions. Suddenly, the Reptilians began to scatter in every direction. Looking up, they noticed that a vortex of dark colored clouds had formed directly above their heads. Along the horizon in the distance, Chad and Todd saw a large herd of unusual creatures approaching them. Todd squinted to try to focus and identify the oncoming mass.
