You Should Know

The track is titled "Broken" because the main robotic synth reminded me of a system breaking down, or something toppling over. This synth paired well with some sloppy drums and heavy fills throughout the first drop. The second drop is the life coming out from what has broken, represented by the loose flowing vocals, pads, and echo-y synths. Everything during this section is a lot more cohesive as well, and less sporadic. I love the contrast between the two sections. I hope it's as soothing, or raw, for you as it is for me.

It's been 23 years since I started performing and releasing music as ill-esha, and I've had a lovely time meeting people around the globe and having wild and diverse adventures.

But neither my high school nickname nor the cruel and unbending genre algorithms fit the direction I've gone, and so I spent this pandemic releasing as many leftover children from the vault as I could. Today I have squeezed in one last song, my 20th song released in 2020 and my last solo release EVER as ill-esha.

I've still got some great collabs to release with artists like @xxstereotypexx , @koyomojo , @klabnz and many others. I'm still going to use this name for what she's evolved into - a music educator, a comedian, a supporter and promoter of gender equality in the industry, a mentor. 

But for pure artistry.. there is another phoenix rising from the ashes. Waiting in the wings. She's been patiently germinating for over three years and it's time to give her my full attention as an artist.

So I humbly ask, if you have enjoyed my music as ill-esha any time in the last 2+ decades, please enjoy this little swan song, a lovely daydream of life as perfect as stock footage.

Also celebrating that I reached over 100,000 monthly listeners for the first time ever on Spotify, so it seems fitting to go out with a bang....
