After nearly 9 months of doing my digital performances for the Symphony of the Goddesses, I decided to take a little dalliance into arrangements again. Feeling the desire to challenge myself, I undertook a string quartet arrangement, and gave myself one day to write--in order to just make me get something on the page without questioning or critiquing myself.

What started as a desire for me to do a quartet arrangement of The 13th Dilemma (one of my absolute favorite tracks from Kingdom Hearts II) soon evolved into a sampling of almost all the Organization XIII themes. I wanted to capture something melancholy that evolved into a more sinister idea before swelling into the big battle theme. Moving the melody around the quartet proved an interesting challenge but one really fun.

The beauty of dissonant songs is you have a wide range of notes and chords to work with because, while you don't want to go wild, it doesn't have to sound ~pretty~. One thing I did find interesting is I found myself taking cues from the Moon Flower Palace themes from Dark Chronicle. I think they've always stood out to me as really capturing that ominous feeling I was going for. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the arrangement itself and how it came out, most of my sticking points have to do with my solo string samples, but it's not that big of a deal!
