Jessica Holt is an aesthetically omnivorous director equally at home directing new and contemporary plays and musicals as she is reinvestigating classics for what they have to say to us here, now, today. She gravitates towards stories of consequences and believes that theater has the power to radically transform our lives and our communities.  Selected directing credits include: the world premiere of The Resting Place, Bright Half Life, Taylor Mac's The Lily's Revenge, Act 5 (Magic Theatre), Kate Hamill's Sense and Sensibility, Fun Home, Venus in Fur (Virginia Stage Company), Speech and Debate (Barrington Stage Company), Rich Girl (Florida Studio Theatre), The Daughters by Patricia Cotter (San Francisco Playhouse, world premiere), and Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino (Alliance Theater), among others.  Additionally, she has developed and directed work at A.C.T., Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Berkeley Rep's Ground Floor, Rivendell Theatre, NYU, Pocono Mountains Music Festival, AADA, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Sewanee Writers Conference, Cutting Ball Theater, among others. Jessica is an NNPN Affiliated artist, a member of the Ring of Keys Network, and was 2016-2017 National Directors Fellow with the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, NNPN, the Kennedy Center, and SDCF.  She was the 2015-2016 Phil Kent Directing Fellow at the Alliance Theatre.  She is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, where she received her MFA in Directing.  She is a proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

Actor James Wagner’s Magic credits include A Lie of the Mind (2015), Buried Child (2013), What We’re Up Against (2011), and Mauritius (2009). 

James Wagner trained at the American Conservatory Theatre and worked in the Bay Area for three years before moving to Los Angeles, where he has lived and worked for the last 10. The majority of his career has been working on new and classic American plays - at places like Magic Theatre, Theatre @ Boston Court, and The American Conservatory Theatre - working with playwrights like Theresa Rebeck, Will Eno, and Chris Pena. He has also played leading roles in a handful of art house, independent, and award-winning films. He is starting to be bi-coastal and his goal is to continue to service new and classic American plays and festival-bound independent films.

Actor Steven Anthony Jones made his Magic debut with In Old Age (2019). 

Steven Anthony Jones was the Artistic Director of the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, the premiere   African-American Theatre Company in the San Francisco Bay Area. He directed Philip Kan Gotanda's After the War Blues for the UC Berkeley Dept. of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies. He has worked professionally on stage, television and in film for 42 years. He has performed in the works of August Wilson, (Charles) Fuller, Fugard, Stoppard, Gotonda, Becket, Pinter, Moliere, Shakespeare, Chekhov and others. He was in the original cast of A Soldier’s Play, produced by the Negro Ensemble Company, which won an Obie Award for ensemble acting and the Pulitzer Prize for best drama. He performed, taught, and directed at the American Conservatory Theater for 22 years as a member of the core acting company. His many film and television credits include two seasons of Midnight Caller and a recurring role on the NBC series Trauma. Mr. Jones received his early theatre training at Karamu House in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Other experience includes the Cleveland Playhouse, Berkeley Rep, San Jose Rep, and San Francisco Shakespeare Festival.

Erik Flatmo is a scenic designer for live performance projects primarily in the disciplines of theatre, opera and dance. He holds a B.A. in architecture from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in design from the Yale School of Drama. He lives in San Francisco and teaches scenery design at Stanford University.

Actor Andrew Pastides’s Magic credits include Reel To Reel (2018), Fool For Love (2017), and Goldfish (2009). 

Andrew Pastides graduated from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities before receiving his BFA in acting from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He moved to NYC where his professional career began in the theatre both in the city and around the country. In 2013 he was nominated for IRNE for his work in the theatre. Andrew has acted in over twenty short films, three of which have screened at SXSW, fifteen of which he also had a hand in writing and producing. His television credits include Law and Order, Suits, and Blue Bloods among others. Andrew starred in the feature film Hank and Asha, which won the Audience Award at Slamdance. He was given the Best Actor Award from the Napa Valley Film Festival for his performance. The Feature Film MA screened at the 2015 TriBeca Film Festival, The Venice Film Festival, AFI, and Rotterdam Film Festival. Andrew has taught acting technique for the last 13 years at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, where for the past 8 years, he has chaired the summer program.

Today should have been Breonna Taylor’s 27th birthday. Breonna was an EMT and an emergency room technician. She was also a daughter, granddaughter, sister, and a niece. In honor of Breonna and the hundreds of thousands of Black bodies that have been terrorized by white supremacy since the genesis of this country, Magic has put together a special edition of our podcast during which we will #SayTheirNames. 
 
We invite you to hear, to see, and to pay tribute to the person behind each of those names. We have left room for you to say their names in a call and response fashion, or to write down unfamiliar names so you might learn more about them. We owe a debt of gratitude to Kimberlé Crenshaw, The African American Policy Forum, and The Black Lives Matter network for this movement.
