His work curating label Club Derange and Skylab radio, as well as his illustrious deejay career both solo and with Waxo paradiso  is instrumental in making our Naarm scene tick. Someone we’ve personally idolised here at Neurocrank from his sunrise sets at Pitch to club nights at Colour, Simon’s sets have always inspired us to dig a little deeper. Next up our Origins Tapes series is musician, producer, DJ and label owner Priori who is best known for their beautiful cross-over tracks and mixes and their label NAFF that they run with fellow artist Ex-Terrestial. 

Based and born Quebec and currently based in Montréal , Priori represents the Canadian dance music scene worldwide through both their individual output and their label’s. They have also become known for their technical ability in the studio which has led to them mixing projects for fellow artists such as Rosa Terence, Ex-terrestrial and Gene Tellem.

Priori’s hypnotic soundscapes have meant that they have the ability to create worlds around their audience with both their live shows, live DJ sets and online mixes and we are excited to be welcoming them for our Origins Tapes series.

Guy Contact is the alias of Perth-based producer and rising star Callum Chute.  Specialising in his own contemporary brand of hardware-focused progressive house, Guy Contact has been hard at work refining his sound since his EP ‘Liminal Space’ dropped on Butter Sessions nearing the end of 2019. The result is a unique and unquestionably cohesive sound palette of pulsating grooves, trance-like overtones and blissful pads - all wrapped up and raring to energise any dancefloor. Following a run of stand out 12” EPs on the likes of Coymix Ltd, Haws Music and Craigie Knowes, Guy Contact is also plotting a follow up release on Butter Sessions due by the end of the year. With quality output to boot in 2021, Guy Contact is commanding the attention of local and global audiences - evidenced also by recent and inspiring contributions to both esteemed Amsterdam based Oddysee mix series and home grown stalwart series Melbourne Deepcast. Callum shared some thoughts and a guest mix for episode 129 of Passing Notes.

@roza-terenzi has traversed continents, yet her sound as a producer is never quite of this world. Hailing from Australia and now based in Berlin, extensive touring and appearances at a host of electronic music’s most esteemed festivals and venues have only served to strengthen her skills as a producer, with releases on the likes of @dkmntl, @planeteuphorique, @kalaharioystercult, @buttersessions and her own @stepballchain somehow evoking both nostalgia and visions of the future through cosmic atmospherics and warm, alien grooves.

Likewise, her Patterns of Perception 95 is luminous, lush and vibrantly nostalgic: like a hazy, sun-bleached postcard from decades past, viewed very much in the here and now. Covering a lot of ground in terms of both tempo and energy - this mix floats effortlessly from downtempo to liquid DNB, from breaks to house and back again, showcasing her effervescent skill and versatility behind the decks. 
Featuring an array of forthcoming and unreleased material from friends, collaborators and Terenzi herself, the warmth in this uplifting selection stirs hope for the times ahead.

In recent times, Space Cadets have taken the scene by storm. Based in Leeds, UK, the two are quickly becoming synonymous with a modern and exciting tech/trancey style of production. Both are also residents/co-run the party/mix series @on-rotation-music

Marlon (@liseneuk) & Adam (@adampits) have pioneered a new and unique sound, inspired by elements of 90's and early 2000's tech/trance/prog and electronica but with their own signature touches and embedded with a distinctly UK vibe. With respective releases on Planet Euphorique, Banoffee Pies, X-Kalay & Holding Hands, not only are both incredibly talented producers in their own right, but this mix is proof that their ability to select and compile a compelling set is just as impressive. 

This mix is what we all need after a long 2020.
