"Ya Rayah" is an Algerian song written and performed in 1973 by Dahmane El Harrachi and in 1993 is back in the limelight and performed by French-Algerian super star Rachid Taha..
At the origin it was a ballad of the traveler, the exiled, the longing to come back, the immigrant, the "wanderin' star", etc. hence its universal appeal.

HF : Where did you discover this song ? Why do you choose to edit it ? 
Mishell : The reason I created this song is because of my love for Moroccan music and its culture.
The first time I was exposed to the Moroccan music was in my grandmother's house, she was born and grew up in Morocco and then moved with her family to Israel in the early 50'. 
I grew up in Israel with a lot of Arabic music around and I am a fan of Middle East artists, in generally, this is something that is rooted in the Israeli-Arab culture and the melodies have always accompanied me threw my life here. A few years after I started producing electronic music I already knew that I must create a version of my own, in order to continue my grandmother's music.

I instantly fell in love but it had some elements that got me out of flow. it missed some drive in the low end and some pace. After some rearrangement and playing around with a new found arpeggiator, it felt ready for the dancefloor. Hopefully the dancefloors open again soon..."
