First Session; First Adventure

A piece written for Ensemblen för Ny Musik, a sinfonietta consisting of students at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg. 

A mix of earlier sketches surrounding an aleatoric center-piece; the movement of the beginning and end breaking into disarray, contemplated in the fragmentaric, yet constant middle section of the piece.

Cubi Cubent

Choir piece written in late 2011 for Dalby KammarKör (previously Dalby KammarEnsemble) and the Chamber Choir at the Academy of Music and Drama. 

A play on words, meaning and languages, the textual material is taken from news articles and small writings on the Internet, dissecated into syllables, vowels and consonants; reassembled into new sentences, and ultimately new meanings. 

Performed by the Chamber Choir on March 8. 2012 at the Siren Festival for new music in Gothenburg.

Will be performed by Dalby KammarKör later in 2012.

Zenevele-Vaelon

Written for Blåsarsymfonikerna (the Swedish Wind Ensemble) in 2012, as part of a collaboration between the music Academies in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö. 

Performed on March 23. at Radiohuset in Stockholm. 

A piece with which I try to create a fertile ground for association, emotion and engagement. Each part born from the small asides in the opening, elaborated into small independent areas. Meaning is inferred by the listener, and yet implied by the music, as is the case with the title; para. For what, for whom? 

For us.

Finnish-Chilean-composer and Cultural Researcher from Sweden, has studied at the Music conservatories of Gothenburg and Paris, and holds a Master's Degree in Visual Culture and a Bachelor's Degree in Musicology from Lund University. 

Mikko Jokela Måsbäck's interests lie in the combination of music and other forms of expression, especially in movie and video game soundtracks, and stage productions.
