We got the chance to catch up with Corsten in Rotterdam via Zoom and talk a bit about the album, the current state of affairs and briefly discuss his mix for this week's episode. This week's mix includes some music from Corsten's new album and chillout veterans such as Chris Coco, Aquasonic, and Jon Hopkins. Breaking through as a House and Garage DJ on the infamous East London pirate radio circuit from the beginning of the millennium, M.A.X has witnessed the ever changing electronic music scene and evolved with it under various alias's. He has been tour support DJ for all of Rudimentals UK tours (most recently the We The Generation Tour Feb/March 2016), and main support act for their 2015 European tour.

Being a regular feature during the last few years at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Wildlife, We Are Fstvl, Mutiny etc and out in Ibiza for the last 3 years at Venues such as Space, Ibiza Rocks and Pikes has helped cement M.A.X as a respected DJ among his peers and secure a sponsorship deal with Jagermeister.

2015 saw M.A.X break through as a producer with an official remix for Rudimental under his belt, a track on Black butter spread Love, an original and remix on RM records and a remix for Soul Divide on Amplified. Lots of radio support on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Kiss FM, Capital Xtra, Rinse and Beats one have helped get his name noticed by the masses.
2016 will see official remixes for the likes of MK, Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa and Longplay to name a few, an original on the Beating Heart album plus his much anticipated debut E.P.

On the DJ front, 2016 has seen M.A.X play multiple sets in the main room at Egg London, Proud Camden, 338 and Ministry Of Sound to name a few, with guest mixes on BBC Radio 1 Xtra and Rinse FM. With some of UK's biggest festivals and major events yet to be announced and sets in Ibiza, Milan and Amsterdam and more European bookings tba, it's shaping up to be a busy year for this fast rising talent.

🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

The time at home allowed me to work on plenty of music, crash course Cinema4D and After Effects to the point of professional use, save health, save money (and spend it immediately on new gear). I stopped gigging and bounced out the nightlife a while back to focus on my design career so I’m really fortunate to say that my professional life remained stable and only became more focused.


🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

Digitized a few old records, bought some new stuff, recorded the mix at home with Traktor. I prefer it for podcasts. Seems to lend itself to longer, more chill blending. With vinyl or XDJ I tend to do a lot of quick cuts, fader/EQ tricks, and that can be a touch aggressive for home listening.

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

I miss intimate Jazz shows. I’d like those back. I want people to continue to be as sympathetic, empathetic as many (certainly not all) have become since the pandemic began. That’s a tall order, I suppose.
