Thandi Draai, a leading lady in the Afro house scene, has made her mark through her influential radio show in South Africa, her numerous great singles and compilations for Get Physical, and her work on this pivotal label. She is a DJ, producer, and vocalist who is shaping the global Afro sound. She collaborates once again with fellow scene figurehead Cee ElAssaad, a chart-topping artist known for his versatility and celebrated for his collaborations with artists like Antonio Ocasia and Janne Tavi. 

The magnificent 'Ashambeni' is an almost eight-minute journey into deeply captivating drums and soul-stirring synth craft. Closing out Versus II is Detroit's very own @petercroce , who puts a late night dance remix on "Search It Out" from the experimentalist group Penya. This is a perfect bookend, as it features the afro-element themes prevalent in the rest of the album, and yet has a more formal approach, so as to allow for a collection of your thoughts. Starting off with an invigorating set of tribal drum sounds, it takes on a lazy synth angle as the song progresses, only to unleash a euphoric set of vocal samples that envelop you in a warm feeling of bliss. Amazing finish to an outstanding album!!

Then there’s the hard-working, grown-ass groove of Proletariat Blues, and Made In China, a beautiful slow-burner for those early evening spins or late-night comedowns.

On the A-side, Aroop Roy means serious business with 'Reason to Dance'. Driven by an outrageous slap bass, infectious horn stabs and a limb-shaking vocal refrain, it's no surprise that this has been THE secret weapon of his recent sets around the world.

On the flip, Detroit native @petercroce, fresh from the huge success of his Razor-N-Tape EP, comes in equally strong, with the gospel-fuelled disco cut 'Just Like Heaven'. The track builds patiently, lingering on a raw disco groove, honing in on a powerful brass section and spirit-lifting vocals, and eventually climaxing with epic strings and thunderous piano.
