From the twilight zone of Rhythm Section International comes a new label for 2017: INTERNATIONAL BLACK. This is the offshoot’s 3rd release this year and the machine shows no signs of slowing down.

Bradley Zero’s ear for new talent continues to pay off as we are introduced to yet another young pair of producers, Mallard & LT,  going by the name of ‘J DEEP’.

Mallard, a 19 yo Jazz student  who made a big splash with his debut RS INTL EP, ‘Verte’, returns with a track aimed more squarely at the dancefloor. Although hypnotic and ethereal, it packs a punch, with the arrangement and musicality belying Mallard’s musical training at Trinity College. 

On the flip side, Mallard joins forces with another promising producer who goes by the name ‘LT’ in their collaborational partnership known as J.Deep. Complex jazz chords swim around 909’s to create an elevating techno roller that climbs and climbs only to give way to sparse rave stabs and ecstatic snare patterns.

Tried and tested for the best part of a year, these are 2 serious jams, proven to cause dancefloor frenzy.

Drum machines, electric pianos, and catchy vocal samples take center stage on Georgi Barrel’s “Rhyme Goes On,” a nostalgia-soaked 12” on the Istanbul/Barcelona-based record label Petra. Joining a catalog of quality releases by Niclas Kannengiesser, Ugur Project, and label owner, Eren Erdol, PTR018 fits nicely into the label’s ethos of releasing timelessly-good music with little care for the boom and bust cycle of passing trends.

On both "Rhyme Goes On" and "Recycle," Barrel works to reinterpret tried-and-true sounds and combine them in new and exciting ways. Its mission accomplished in our minds as both originals (and their remixes) hold their own in our crates next to recent favorites and re-discovered classics. Smart, swift arrangements keep things interesting as sampled raps repeat over jazzy chords, dusty drums, and rolling bass lines. On remix duties for "Recycle" is German veteran Hodini, a Bolting Bits favorite with standout EPs on Money$ex and Wolf Music and previous remixes on Toy Tonics and Tenderpark. Stretching out the original arrangement, Hodini turns "Recycle" into a DJ's dream that rides out a brilliantly simple groove that does away with the original vocal in favor of sultry chords and steady drums.

For the rework of the title track, Petra stayed in-house, tapping up-and-comer Kerem Akdag to add some synth-laden goodness to the rough and raw original. By subduing the original vocal sample, Akdag lets his synthesizers do the talking. Lush pads, subtle bass, and delay-soaked leads come together in a compelling arrangement that begs for a replay after its reasonably quick runtime. The various elements weave together to make every changeup feel like a familiar surprise as they take turns leading the track.

If there’s one thing that house heads, techno connoisseurs and your mum can all agree on, it’s that disco is a phenomenal genre. Today’s premiere is a case in point. 

We’re delighted to deliver to you Paradiso Records’ debut release. Paradiso is a label and blog built on an ethos of non-stop dancing, helmed by our very own Adam Rees. Our in-house disco aficionado has somehow found time in between headlining venues as a DJ, producing music under his alias REES, and writing for Bolting Bits, to launch Paradiso with a strong vision and aesthetic. The label sits in a corner of house music that can be tough to break into. But if Rees’ admirable work ethic, undeniable passion for the scene, and the label’s impeccable maiden release are anything to go by, Paradiso’s trajectory is promising. 
 Launching the label with the Jam Batch Edits EP is rising talent Sam Goes to Tokyo. Staying true to his influences and self-professed love for synths, big drums and classic samples, the Mancunian producer delivers three high energy disco cuts that feed the soul. ‘Tomorrow America’ is anthemic in nature, basking in the glory days of disco while heralding the exciting beginnings of a new era of house music. Keeping the Saturday night fever alive, the second track ‘Dancing’ is a smooth four-four journey from start to finish. It has all the trappings of a superbly produced disco edit, but feels far from formulaic.  

Today we have the pleasure of bringing you ‘Checking Out’, rounding off the EP with stellar vibes. Luring us in with a pumping kick drum, the track soon steals our hearts with an electric vocal hook from Aurra’s soulful 1982 disco groover: ‘Checking You Out’. The original is given a refreshing club-ready re-contextualisation without sacrificing any of its personality and emotion. Add in a delicate amount of filtering to build and sustain euphoria, and the outcome is an incredibly workable track that will deliver on any occasion. On the dancefloor, it’ll make you want to hug the stranger next to you. In the bedroom, it’ll make you feel like you’re closing a festival. It’s a universal crowd pleaser guaranteed to lift the spirits – true proof that disco really is for everyone.

2018 has been a laborious one for New Zealand producer Azure and that might be an understatement. Azure’s imprint down streamed into many channels with multitude of releases under Azure, 2XM, as well as running a label, Crooked Lidz. To top it off, Azure closes out the year with another quality EP on Stones Taro’s ‘No Collars 4 Kicks label’ with Kills. ‘Quams’ soul-searching chords, ethereal pads and coastal rhythm section go alone perfectly for sunsets over the ocean. The un-denying warmth of ‘Quams’ is meant to be shared with people you trust and love.
