Inbound this summer on insurgent drum and bass label Evolution Chamber comes a collaboration of epic proportions from three of its co-founders. Fast-rising international duo Magnetude and Russian Neurofunk lynchpin Receptor have joined forces for the anthemic new single “Goodbye”.

Both known for striking a fine balance between sparkling melodies and dizzying crescendos, Magnetude and Receptor make for a hotly anticipated tag-team, with the two acts collectively boasting some seriously impressive credentials.

With past releases via D&B strongholds RAM Records, Viper Recordings and Eatbrain and glowing endorsements from BBC Radio 1’s Rene LaVice and DJ Target already in the bag, Anglo-Russian twosome Magnetude have forged a path for themselves as some of the genre’s finest innovators, while long-standing Moscow-based DJ/producer Receptor has been heralded as a pioneer of the Russian scene, working with everyone from Noisia to Black Sun Empire.

“Goodbye” finds the three creators each bringing their A game, coming hot on the heels of their latest releases on Evolution Chamber – titled “Trail of Tears” and “Avocado” respectively and both released in 2020. Bringing together reverberating guitar licks and floaty pads, it’s a whirlwind of a track, flitting between shuffling, trip-hop-esque breakbeats, junglistic rhythms and trance-leaning four-to-the-floor sensibilities – punctuated by twinkling, happy hardcore-inspired leads and euphoric vocals – to make for characteristically spellbinding results.

@Hybridtheory have been killing it in basshouse for quite a while now and have gone from strength to strength releasing on imprints as Crucast and Gorilla Warfare. Their dnb exploits have hit stores with increasing numbers and now they debut a huge two tracker on Korsakov Music with Burn / Sick. And they aren't alone.

They've teamed up with Bristol based supertalent @icudnb who has made a meteoric rise onto the scene with his debut release Hush Hush dropping on Gorilla Warfare netting him a residency at the infamous Motion free raves in Bristol. The deadly combination of these artists is unleashed in full strength on Burn, a nefarious dancefloor anthem blessed by the incredible vocals of Nehanda.

Sick continues the banger trend and takes it into even more stripped down and bare territory, going full new school jump up vibes to close the two tracker.

Burn / Sick is out 19 November exclusively on Spotify & Beatport, with a worldwide release set to 3 December.

“You ever done seen a varmint like this one before?”

Spurs firmly entrenched in the dirt and hands hovering over the holsters of their six shooters, a pair of lone cattlemen stared with befuddlement at the being that stood before them. Rising from the cracked desert soil was an amalgamation that seemed to be composed of every plant able to hold on in that heat blasted wasteland, as though the earth itself had taken offense at the idea of a cattle drive through the largest desert on the continent. Its bones were of the great saguaro, riddled with millions of piercing needles, and across its flesh ran a layer of bindweed that flowered with the sickly off-white petals so known for strangling the crops in this western reach of the country. Perhaps most uncanny was what seemed to be the monster’s “face” which mimicked humanity with a pair of massive seedlike eyes and teeth of razor sharp yucca as it gazed menacingly at the insignificant forms that lay below.

In the face of this monstrosity stood Scruggs & Sonny Jim, sharing in the courage of a bond built on years of shared experience driving cattle across the great expanses of the continent. With wordless and fluid synchronization, the pair drew their revolvers and fired a pair of shots directly into the eyes of the great beast as they sprinted for their saddles. Though they knew the shots would not kill, for indeed they doubted if such a behemoth could even be slain, theirs was an action that might yet secure their escape. Driving their spurs into the flanks of their mounts, the two took off at breakneck pace away from the massive form that now emitted an otherworldly howl behind them. The ground shook with the weight of the monster’s lumbering movements, but the duo’s fine horses held true to their course, and behind them the nightmarish horror disappeared in a cloud of dust. Yet even as they rode on into the sunset, the pair was not alone. High above, they were trailed by a hawk that watched them keenly with the exacting precision of its predatory eyes. Though Scruggs & Sonny Jim had escaped for a time, the land was alive, and it was always watching.

BURR OAK hop in the saddle for their first full EATBRAIN EP, following a feature track on the label’s Divergence II compilation and a set of previous EP’s on the like minded Trendkill Records. A dynamic duo composed of The Clamps & Opsen, BURR OAK now drive the EATBRAIN horde onwards to new sonic horizons as they deliver their fully loaded HAWKEYE EP to the horde’s myriad ears.

What is a story without a plot? A journey without a destination? A movie without a soundtrack? A song without emotion?

These are the questions that carve Rustam Mansurov and James Peacock’s unique dynamic signature as Magnetude, an act with one of the most distinctive, exciting and dramatic sounds in contemporary drum & bass.

On a much deeper level, these questions are what magnetised the Anglo/Russian duo together in the first place. Born thousands of miles apart - and seemingly kept apart through an array of life complications - they remain kindred spirits connected through a series of shared passions, visions and creative ideologies.

Both sharing rich histories in music – Rustam was playing piano aged 9, James was playing violin aged 12 – they’re both heavily inspired by the importance of detail, orchestral dynamics and story-telling in music. Moved by the works of composers ranging from Ennio Morricone and Danny Elfman to Amon Tobin, John Williams to Ilya Beshevli, no amount of distance can quench the duo’s synergy and energy.

It’s a synergy that began in 2010 when they met on VKontake, and developed when Rustam was signed to Close 2 Death, a label James was A&R for at the time. In 2015 it evolved into a much stronger energy when the pair left Close 2 Death and started to collaborate on their own music. By 2016 the ‘Hyperdrive’ EP was born and Magnetude was ready to reveal to the world. It was delivered by one of most influential, innovative stables in the heavier D&B pastures at the time – Lifted Music.

Quickly appearing on some of the most prominent imprints in drum & bass culture such as Eatbrain, Renegade Hardware, Viper and RAM Records, their music has gone on to appear on games such as Project Cars and Freaked Fleapit, and between them they’ve torn dancefloors apart from Creamfields to Let It Roll, Pirate Station to XOYO. Most recently, they’ve co-founded the exciting forward-thinking, community-minded collective @EvolutionChamberOfficial alongside like-minded fusionists @TaskHorizonAudio and @ReceptorMusic.

Reminding the scene of the importance of strength in numbers and how the best things happen when people come together, Magnetude’s creative signature grows stronger. The plot thickens, the journey continues…
