Since 2007 Discotexas has flown the flag for quality disco and leftfield House music releases from a wide array of artists out of its sunny base in Portugal. Now, for the second time, the label is compiling some of its most popular cuts alongside a selection of unreleased exclusives that will soon see the light of day as singles packages.

The title is Discotexas Picnic II, a nod to the fact that this release shines a light on known and unknown artists in one big family gathering much like... a picnic! Importantly this is richly musical centered around disco and house music. It is emotion-full and fueled by organic and human ways of doing memorable tunes.

There are many highlights along the way and unreleased tracks at time of compilation release include opener Moullinex – ‘To Be Clear’ (RAC Remix), a prickly, slo mo and vocal led jam bursting with colourful synths and real instruments. Others include the strident boom bap and real sounding percussion of Jay Lamar & Jesse Oliver’s ‘Cul De Sac’, Da Chick’s radiant and pop leaning ‘Lotta Love’, the Xinobi remix of Justin Faust’s ‘Space Rhumba’ and Xinobi’s ‘Puma’ (Moullinex Remix).

Elsewhere the cosmic funk of Jesse Oliver’s ‘Oceans’ (Mirror People Remix) soars to the twinkly night sky with glistening arpeggiated melodies, 80s leaning chords and a healthy dose of disco dazzle, whilst edit kings Psychemagik do their inimitable thing on a remix of Mirror People’s ‘Kaleidoscope’ and turn it into a prowling, nagging, dark disco number that really works its way under your skin with its celestial keys and slightly haunted late night vibe. Wherever you look here there is pure and modern disco gold from some of the genre’s finest producer’s as expertly A&Red by the close knit Discotexas family.

Helsinki based producer Jesse Oliver returns with a hot package that features two brand new tracks and comes on the same label that released his equally essential ‘Oceans’ single back in 2013, Discotexas. 

Oliver has been producing for a couple of years now and is really making a name for himself  having topped the Beatport charts and sound tracked knowing dancefloors with his lively house music. The Discotexas label, meanwhile, has build a sterling reputation for quality modern disco and alternative dancefloor grooves from the likes of Xinobi, Mirror People and Justin Faust. 

The first track, ‘Piece By Piece’, takes its time to unfold into a simple but effective house track run through with plenty of synth drama and chord stabbed intensity. It features a large breakdown and is the sort of thing to drop at the peak moment of the night. 

Next up, ‘Could Be Mine’ is a deeply rooted bit of house music with a plucky guitar riff imbuing it with a sense of funk, and a subtly worked vocal that is buried deep within circling synths and brightly coloured chords. It’s accessible house music that makes you want to dance and will no doubt unite dancefloors everywhere.

An instrumental is also included in this tidy package from the ever impressive Jesse Oliver and Discotexas.

Jerry Bouthier’s label Continental records welcomes Mexico’s Bluehost to its continuously expanding international roster. Building a body of releases where love for songs with character and dancefloor principles cohabit on dj-friendly EPs crafted by authentic artists, the colorful, pop-tinged digital imprint springs back into action with ‘We Need You’ by Bluehost, a trio hailing from Mexico City which aims at combining indie moods and club vibes in one personal inspired Latin spell.

When DJ Alex González was introduced to Azzim Susano who was singing in a new-wave band at the time, the two 24 year olds into synth-pop and European sounds hit it off immediately and decided to form Bluehost. Cruz Antonio on drums soon completed the line-up. The band's name stems from its wish to combine the melancholy of Blue Monday, the third Monday of January believed to be the most depressing day of the year (almost certainly also a nod at New Order's electrodisco classic), to their love of hosting parties and making people dance.

With a funky rhythm guitar that would make Nile proud, quirky synths a-gogo, electro beats to almost breakdance to and a male vocal that’s as infectious as heartfelt to top the lot, ‘We Need You’ strikes a chord. These boys sure cultivate a sentiment of their own, injecting warm, impassioned, Hispanic touch and cool dance moves to their beloved indie-pop.

In the remix seat Pallace, the Frenchie who’s co-produced Zimmer's lately, opts for a driving house makeover, stripping down vocals and unleashing some proper feelgood Hammond chords and one of the catchiest SH101 basslines you’ll hear this summer. Next Sweden's Copycat, the analog lord renowned for revamping the 80s with style and skilled production techniques, turns out a piano-led balearic anthem that’ll have you throw your hands in the air before you know it. To conclude the EP, Bluehost provide their own dub remix which takes ‘We Need You’ one step closer to Manchester’s Haçienda and its italo-house heaven.

So, what's with that name Magnifik? Well, it stands for magnificent. Not the artist but the music. It's all about the love of music.
 
Magnifik’s soulful electronic tracks have been described as 'music for the nu-romantics' and his knack for mixing catchy melodies with soul, disco and house inspired productions have earned him plenty of fans since he first started playing his synth to his dog a decade ago.

He has represented Australian talent in New York as part of the Summer Stage Festival, played at the Warehouse Music Festival, performed runway shows four times at Fashfest fashion festival, featured at two ArtNotApart art festivals, was the headliner at the CBR Day concert and performed at the Triple J’s Groovin The Moo festival.
 
Magnifik has singles out on Bobbin’ Head Music, Yes Yes Records, Klub Kids, Say What and Hot Sunday Records and remixed such acts as PNAU and SAFIA on labels including Ministry of Sound, Etc Etc, Sweat It Out and Bam Bam Records. The singles have been around the ARIA Club Chart and received airplay as far as Radio 1 in the UK, Fritz radio in Germany and as close at Triple J in Australia.
 
His songs even featured on highly successful compilations including Ministry of Sound Chillout Sessions XIV, Hed Kandi Beach House, Defected Records Niki Beach Miami and RAW FM. How successful? Even his grandparents have a copy of all of them.

Magnifik has released four albums ‘Amateur’, ‘The Gentleman of Disco’, ‘Romantik’ and ‘Music & Wine’.  The last album must have really hit the right note with fans and critics, gaining 50,000+ streams in the first month.
 
For all this effort he has received a pointy award as the Best House Producer at the Music ACT Annual Music Awards. It is now glistening in his studio, but let’s not focus on that but rather on all the electronic soul music that he is lovingly working on now.
