Hitting the ground running and kicking off the new year in style, French DJ and producer, Tony Cortez, is welcomed back to Toolroom’s Trax imprint for our first release of 2023, with brand new single, ‘La Negra’ which features the hypnotic vocal talents of Colombia’s singer-songwriter and percussionist, Orito Cantora.

An artist whose been going from strength to strength, Tony Cortez has grafted his way through DJ residencies and VIP parties since a young age. After emigrating to the UK in 2012 and with a burning passion for all things House and Tech House, Tony’s music has found its way onto some of the most respected labels in the underground scene including Safe Music, Prizm, HoTL Records, UNION and many more.

‘La Negra’ is another slice of Tech House fire! Boasting tribal, percussive rhythms, pan-pipe melodies, weighty drum patterns, playful bassline and those delectable, warming vocals from Orito running throughout; a straight up club groover that you know is going to off in 2023!

Producers are the backbone of any label; developing supportive and genuine relationships with our artists is the core principle of TOR's development. Our 'Amis' series is an ode to the figures that we feel are at the foundation of the label's journey thus far.

To kick off the Amis series on TOR, there was truly only one man for the job. Wassu will always hold a special mantle at the TOR imprint, as the man who inaugurated the label with his Andu EP in 2020. Since then, the New Yorker has turned heads with a string of prolific releases on the likes of Anjunadeep, All Day I Dream, and When We Dip XYZ. With each passing project, Wassu's mastery of warm melodies and boastful basslines deepens, showcasing the ever-evolving sound of the wizardly Wassu.

It's safe to say that Wassu has outdone himself on this one, welcoming a widespread community of producers into the fold. He grabbed the baton & ran with it, sourcing a bounty of material for the debut of Amis. More than anything, this collection of music represents the fact that Wassu is a man of the people; one of the most important characters in the deep & melodic scene. He brings together artists from all corners for our debut Amis project - longtime collaborators, new faces, inspirational acts, studio partners, and burgeoning partnerships all align on Wassu's Amis.

Pretty proud of myself.  This is what I managed to make after 12 months og learning production. I hope the next 12 months will have an equally steep learning curve :D

I think I would define it as a Tech-House/House track. 

I've been playing around with some samples and making some new synth sounds. The vocal track is again, a sample from Kele Le Roc.

It features a nice Kick and a driving bassline. I've tried to make it spacious and distant.
Alot of the samples I've used comes from the Toolroom sample packs
