CHURCH\BELLS!

A small sample of sounds produced by my DIY bitwise modulation synth. It's an atmega328 microcontroller that does direct digital synthesis on an 8-bit dac. Two oscillators, sine, square, saw and triangle waves, bitwise modulation effect, a rudimentary LFO, LPF, VCA and MIDI in. Will post some more info later.

8-bit bitwise synth

Short demo tune made with my 8-bit diy synth. Some bitwise modulation going on there, some modest chorus, resonant filter and reverb added in DAW. The drum sounds are afrodjmac's commodere64 sounds. Bass, lead and other synth sounds all from my 8-bit crappy synth. It does sound pretty awfull at times, but with 8-bits what else did you expect? 

The synth is an 8-bit diy DAC connected to an atmega328 doing digital direct synthesis.

A spoken chant without any instrumentals was selected:

Its frequency spectrum was computed into an image form (like a piano roll):

Then to each pixel of this frequency map a synthesizer was attached to oscillate sounds, in particular for this track a Bells synthesizer.

The result is the human spoken chant is reproduced as though the chanter is the chiming bells! Even the echos in the original recording is reproduced in great details via the chime of the bells! 

REMARK: Although most words of the chant are not fully audible, but the exercise of humming along in the mind with these chiming bells is a pleasurable one!
