The best thing for being sad, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. It is important not to suppress your feelings altogether when you are depressed. It is equally important to avoid terrible arguments or expressions of outrage. You should steer clear of emotionally damaging behavior. People forgive, but it is best not to stir things up to the point at which forgiveness is required. When you are depressed, you need the love of other people, and yet depression fosters actions that destroy that love. Depressed people often stick pins into their own life rafts. The conscious mind can intervene. One is not helpless.

قلت لنفسي: فهل ينبغي لي أن أحرق دمي لأني أفكر؟ وهل أظل دائمًا بهذا التفكير كالذي ينظر في وجه حسناء بمنظار مكبِّر؛ لا يريه ذلك الوجه المعشوق إلا ثقوبًا وتخريمًا كأنه خشبة نُزعت منها مسامير غليظة …! فلا يجد المسكين هذه الحقيقة إلا ليفقد ذلك لجمال؟ وهل بدٌّ من الشبه بين بعض الناس وبين ما ارتصد له من عمل يحيا به؛ فلا يكون الحوذي٢٠ حوذيًّا إلا لشبه بين نفسه وبين الخيل والبغال والحمير …؟
وقالت لي النفس: إن فأسَ الحطَّاب لا تكون من أداة الطبيب؛ فخذ لكلِّ شيء أداته، وكن جاهلًا أحيانًا، ولكن مثل الجهل الذي يصنع لوجه الطفل بشاشته الدائمة، فهذا الجهل هو أكبر علم الشعور الدقيق المرهف، ولولاه لهلك الأنبياء والحكماء والشعراء غمًّا وكمدًا، ولكانوا في هذا الوجود، على هذه الأرض، بين هذه الحقائق، كالذي قُيِّد وحُبس في رَهَج٢١ تُثيره القَدَم والخُفُّ والحافر: لا يتنفس إلا الغبار يثار من حوله إلى أن يُقضى عليه.
اجهل جهلك يا صاحبي في هذه الشهوات الخسيسة؛ فإنها العلم الخبيث الذي يُفسد الروح، واعرف كيف تقول لروحك الطفلة في ملائكيتها حين تساورك الشهوات: هذا ليس لي؛ هذا لا ينبغي لي.

إن الروح الكبيرة هي في حقيقتها الطفل الملائكي.

وعِلم خسائس الحياة يجعل للإنسان في كل خسيسة نفسًا تتعلق بها، فيكون المسكين بين نفسين وثلاثٍ وأربع، إلى ثلاثين وأربعين كلهنَّ يتنازعنَهُ، فيضيع بهذه الكثرة، ويصبح بعضه بلاءً على بعض، وتشغلُهُ الفضول، فيعود لها كالمزبلة لِمَا أُلقي فيها، ويُمحَق٢٢ في نفسه الطبيعية حسُّ الفرح بجمال الطبيعة، كما يُمحق في المزبلة معنى النظافة ومعنى الحس بها.
هذه الأنفس الخيالية في هذا الإنسان المنكود، هي الأرواح التي ينفخها في مصائبه، فتجعلها مصائب حيَّة تعيش في وجوده وتعمل فيه أعمالها، ولولاها لماتت في نفسه مطامع كثيرة، فماتت له مصائب كثيرة.

انظر بالروح الشاعرة، تَرَ الكون كله في سمائه وأرضه انسجامًا واحدًا ليس فيه إلا الجمال والسحر وفتنة الطرب، وانظر بالعقل العالِم، فلن ترى في الكون كله إلا مواد علم الطبيعة والكيمياء.

ومدى الروح جمال الكون كله؛ ومدى العقل قطعةٌ من حجر، أو عظمةٌ من حيوان، أو نسيجةٌ من نبات، أو فِلذةٌ من معدن، وما أشبهها.

اجهل جهلك يا صاحبي؛ ففي كل حسنٍ غزلٌ بشرط ألا تكون العاشق الطامع، وإلا أصبتَ في كل حسن همًّا ومشغلةً …!

قلتُ لنفسي وقالت لي

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurt or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become priceless treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

Eventual awareness

It's like, one moment you're laughing with them, dancing and making a fool out of yourself, and the next week, month, or maybe even a day, you discover that they have basically fallen off the face of YOUR earth. Not the earth itself because you still see them laughing and cracking jokes with other people while they completely ignore your presence and act as if you no longer exist to them. It is best to keep in mind that one of the hardest things that you will ever have to face in life is grieving the loss of a person who is still alive.

How do l feel about it? You seriously just asked me how I feel about it? Classic. Ya know, this whole psychologist thing in general is kind of corrupt. You sit down, listen to my problems, (supposedly) and ask me how I feel? Look, I know my parents gave you the rundown of my whole life story or whatever. I heard you from the waiting room. You know I was bullied. You know I have bipolar. You know my grandma died. How does that make me feel? Not great. But I don’t let that stuff define me. I’ve moved on. I’ve dealt with that stuff on my own. To be honest, you guys are just reopening those wounds. Last night I googled stuff about psychologists. All I have to say is wow. Y’all get paid a pretty hefty salary considering you just sit down and listen to people go on, and on about their problems. But I mean, let’s be honest here. You don’t actually listen. You’re just thinking about going home, watching tv, what you’re going to make for dinner. Look, I’m not stupid. You guys are still regular people. You have your own problems. If you ask me, I don’t think you want to spend your time engulfing yourself in some randos life. So, I’m just saying maybe asking me how I feel isn’t the best approach. Cause, I’m pretty sure I just told you how I feel. Let’s just cut this short okay. You can have that power bar you’ve been eyeing on your desk, and I can go ride my skateboard for the next hour. That’ll make us both feel better. (gets up and exits)

Psychologist Monologue

عندما نعيش لذواتنا فحسب، تبدو لنا الحياة قصيرة ضئيلة، تبدأ من حيث بدأنا نعي، وتنتهي بانتهاء عمرنا المحدود! أما عندما نعيش لغيرنا، أي عندما نعيش لفكرة، فإن الحياة تبدو طويلة عميقة، تبدأ من حيث بدأت الإنسانية وتمتد بعد مفارقتنا لوجه هذه الأرض! إننا نربح أضعاف عمرنا الفردي في هذه الحالة، نربحها حقيقة لا وهما، فتصور الحياة على هذا النحو، يضاعف شعورنا بأيامنا وساعاتنا ولحظاتنا.. فليست الحياة بعدد السنين، ولكنها بعداد المشاعر، وما يسميه الواقعيون في هذه الحالة وهما! هو في الواقع حقيقة أصح من كل حقائقهم! لأن الحياة ليست شيئا آخر غير شعور الإنسان بالحياة.. جَرِد أي إنسان من الشعور بحياته تجرده من الحياة ذاتها في معناها الحقيقي! ومتى أحس الإنسان شعورا مضاعفا بحياته، فقد عاش حياة مضاعفة فعلا. يبدو لي أن المسألة من البداهة بحيث لا تحتاج إلى جدال! إننا نعيش لأنفسنا حياة مضاعفة، حينما نعيش للآخرين، وبقدر ما نضاعف إحساسنا بالآخرين، نضاعف إحساسنا بحياتنا، ونضاعف هذه الحياة ذاتها في النهاية!

المشاعر البشرية

اننا نعاني عندما نقاوم الواقع .. 
نعيش أسرى التحكم فيه !
إنما يجب أن نعي جوانب الحياة
فنكون أجدر وأقدر بتقلباتها وظروفها

Sandra: If you were lost at sea on a boat, I’d be happy if you starved for days before keeling over and dying.

Bruce: If we were invaded by evil aliens, I hope you would be their first pick for death.

Sandra: If you were walking along a New York City block I would be amused if a bird shat on the concrete, you slipped across it and fell head first into an open sewer drain, plummeting fifty feet underground until smack, you’re gone.

Bruce: Heart attack!

Bruce: I hope you get beat with a bat!

أنت النور الذي يضيء حياتي والنبع الذي أرتوي منه حباً وحناناً، 
أنت ...  الأب الذي يشار إليه بالبنان ويفتخر به بين الأنام،
 فهنيئاً لي بك أيها الأب العظيم، 
 فمهما قلت ومهما عبرت.... 
  يعجز لساني عن أن يجد كلمات تعبّر عما في قلبي لأوفيك حقك،

We human beings are magnets; we attract the quality life we think we deserve. We are as happy as we think we are. Our life is as good as we think it is. The quality of our life depends on the quality of our thoughts. A man is nothing but the recollection of thoughts he has about himself. Our world perception is what we think about the world. Thinking is all that is controlling our lives. Thinking is how we perceive ourselves, others, the whole world, and basically—life.

So be fully aware of your environment, to be fully aware of yourself, to be fully aware of your sur- roundings. Most importantly, to be aware of yourself being in the envi- ronment with your surroundings at the same time.
