Tour-Maubourg - A Little Bit Of Help (Interlude)

Dan Shake has achieved what no other has in over a decade: with his debut release in the music world, he's become the very first producer without Detroit heritage or residency to land a release on Moodymann's prestigious record label Mahogani Music. Based in London, the former Leeds student secured the feat in a charmingly anachronistic fashion: having just watched Kenny Dixon Jr perform alongside the 3 Chairs at Dimensions Festival, Dan simply handed over a demo CD with a collection of unreleased tracks. Moodymann was hooked instantly, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of Detroit strong artists. 
Citing influence from the rhythms of Afrobeat pioneers, the soul-drenched sampling of J Dilla and the dense grooves laid out by contemporary producers such as Flying Lotus, Dan's situation in winding up on a label renowned for encompassing all those traits is a blessing for the young producer.

For our 50th release on Delusions Of Grandeur we're pleased to bring you seven exclusive tracks from a mighty-fine collection of both existing DOG artists and veritable newcomers alike.
Kicking off Part One we have Rush Hour regular Nebraska who manages to successfully combine elements of wait for it... trance and broken beat into an altogether more exciting and amazing way than that actually sounds on paper. Organic, sampled drums with plenty of grit and dirt lay down a groove whilst spacey synth arps and an almighty break (in a subtle way) make this something of an epic which all of us here have fallen for in a big way.
Quintessentials and Kolour LTD favourite Ugly Drums steps up next digging deep in his seemingly bottomless collection of brilliant of disco and soul to mine some killer samples and conjuring up a masterclass in deepest ravehouse in the process.
Rounding off Part One DOG mainstays and bona fide Retreaters Session Victim do what they do best on Came To Be Alive, turning in a completely blissed-out, dusty soul jam tailor-made as much for cozy nights in front of a log fire as for antipodean BBQ's under a hazy sun.

Following the success of Edition One, Dutch sensations Kraak and Smaak drop a brand new sixteen-track Boogie Angst compilation of the finest cuts from their label, alongside a whole host of exclusive, forthcoming material. It’s a delectable collection of soulful, funk inspired house, downtempo beats and indie infused electronica. Dutch homegrown talent Feiertag opens up the compilation with the beautifully cinematic ‘Bunraku’, harnessing the innate soul emanating from David Harks’ vocals. This dreamy, downbeat thread runs through a number of the tracks, providing a healthy balance between the more dancefloor-orientated joints. Take to Snacks’ slo-mo piano trip ‘Daydream’, Meeka Kates and Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez’s evocatively soulful, R&B infused ‘No’ or Moods’ syncopated, electronic exploration of analogue warmth, ‘Lost Translation’ (exclusive to this comp) for prime examples of this meditative bliss.

Elsewhere, New-Zealand newcomers A Band Called Success let loose on an MPC styled, dancefloor hazer, whilst Vhyce lays out an 80’s inspired, indie imbued cut, providing the perfect backdrop for Yves Paquet’s reverberated tones. 

With their 6th studio album not far off, Dutch maestros Kraak and Smaak also treat the compilation to recently released set-up single, ‘I’ll Be Loving You’. Teaming up with long-time vocal collaborator IVAR, they channel a slice of the summer into this irresistible, funk-laden, pool party jam. Cowbell heat a plenty! A hand- picked selection of some of the most exciting producers in the scene right now; ‘Edition Two’ showcases everything from dancefloor delights to horizontal haziness, all tied together with a soulfulness that the Boogie Angst label has become so well known for.

Flumo and ANMA Records join forces once again - this time for a collaborative project between UK based Contours and Yadava. Cosmic Echoes was built over numerous jam sessions fusing live percussion, bass, drum machine, synthesizers and field recordings to create a raw EP full of soul and warmth.

‘Start First Finish Last’ opens up with smooth keys and alluring bass solo. The drum and percussion interplay keeps the up beat rhythm flowing, allowing for the bass to enhance on a Balearic and laid-back dance groove. ‘
‘Udu' takes the vibe on a more beat-driven road, with interlocking Kit and Udu patterns, floating keys and rolling synth arpeggios cutting in and out of the groove. ‘Speaking Through Broken Shells’, gets back on the bass and drum heavy interaction, with lots of influences from UK jazz scene.
 
The B-side starts off with a more familiar house groove. ‘Low Slung’, is a nod to the eyes down moments on the dance floor, with raw hats and shakers swirling around synth swells and heavy synth bass for introspective bliss.
‘Cascades’ swaps over to an atmospheric soundscapes, with plenty of stereo play and rich sound quality, making it easy to get lost in a jungle of flutes, keys and rain-line percussion notes.
 
NIAN’s remix of Cascades, takes the atmosphere up a beat and subs the rolling bass with broken beat rhythm, while Skygaze remix, of the same track, adds liquidity and reshapes the atmospheric sound into a more dance floor orienting mix.
