Included in this compilation of original 60's and 70's Brazilian funk, soul and samba gems are some of Greg and Sean's favourite tracks that have been filling dance floors for years. Some of them are seeing their first official CD release. The music included in this compilation meets the same criteria as the songs you'd hear on any Sunday night at Black Betty: they move the crowd, and they're great songs.

Bem-Vindo! Brazilian Beat Brooklyn is a weekly party thrown at a bar called Black Betty just over the East River from Manhattan, in New York City. DJs Sean Marquand and Greg Caz preside over the long-running party (5 years) where they consistently play strictly vintage Brazilian records. In addition to the party and other DJ ventures, Sean is known as half of Embassy Sound Productions. He brought his team down to Brazil to help resurrect Black Rio legends Uniao Black for a new release. By invitation, Greg has DJ'd at some of the hottest Brazilian parties around the globe.

After the success of vol. 1, French Colombia-based label Galletas Calientes Records is back on track with another "Palenque Records Afrocolombia Remix" series, inviting more talented producers from worldwide "Global Bass" scene to revisit all time Afro-Colombian classic musical pieces.
Palenque Records' original artists, such as Son Palenque, Batata y Su Rumba Palenquera, Colombiafrica The Mystic Orchestra.., living testimonies of how much Africa has influenced traditional music in Colombia, have developed a remarkable culture, collaborating with african musicians such as Diblo Dibala, Bopol Mansiamina, Dally Kimoko or Nyboma.
Most of them are considered to be the precursors of “Champeta", a unique musical genre setting its roots in the west-african Soukous and folklore. This music is the origin of the very interesting "Picó” culture of the Caribbean coast of Colombia. In this volume, we´ll go deeper into modern Champeta, re-interpreting nowadays dj's works of the like of Rata Piano, typically dropping some catchy soukous guitar samples and going mad on some cheap Casio sampler over heavy drum machines played live.
Remixes and edits from Bosq (U.S.), The Busy Twist (UK), Umoja (NL), Bleepolar (CO), Dj Panko (ESP) and Frikstailers (AR) are featured on this second volume. 
The digital bonus version, available for free with the vinyl, comes with 8 extra remixes from Novalima (PE), Piper Street Sound (US), Frikstailers and Umoja again, Copia Doble Systema (DK), Thombs (CO), Kosta Kostov (DE), and Dj Galletas Calientes (CO / FR).
Notice the colourful sleeve, originally hand painted by William “El Maestro" Gutierrez, one of the most renowned "pico" sound-system visual artists from Barranquilla Colombia.

Gozar & Captain Planet (@djgozarla & @dj-captain-planet) reinterpret a forgotten tune to fit in on a modern dance floor. It's perfect for welcoming in the summer sun. 

In Captain Planet's own words - "Gozar and I have both connected over our shared deep love and appreciation for obscure vintage music from Africa and the diaspora since we first met at a warehouse party in 2011.. I think? He had just come back from Colombia with a stack of dusty Cumbia and folkloric LP's, and I was a recent transplant from Brooklyn who didn't know any locals yet. We clicked, I started coming to more parties that he and the Subsuelo crew were throwing, then I became an official member of the crew sometime around 2015. For those who don't know, Subsuelo is a tight collective of deejays, musicians, and one feisty photographer, who have been throwing global club nights in LA since 2010, often incorporating our trademark live flamenco meets hip hop element as well as providing a venue for guest artists and deejays from around the world. Josh (Gozar) & I (along with Canyon) opened the Subsuelo headquarters together that summer in an old rundown dentist office in Filipinotown that we converted into shared office/work space and a recording studio which became our base for daily operations. The space is constantly buzzing with group meetings, late night soiree's, and lots of vinyl records in rotation (like the one which gave us inspiration for this track together), with an occasional soundbath or yoga class taking place there as well. This song will not be available on Spotify, iTunes or other DSP, because quite frankly, we have sampled an old record and don't want to monetarily profit off the music. But we are happy to give away the tune for free download off of Soundcloud and share our updated dance floor take on this classic West African guitar band sound."

Gozar adds "I originally found this track on a trip to Barranquilla, Colombia back in 2011. I got some burnt MP3's full of tracks that DJ's play on the "Pico" sound systems - Salsa, Cumbia, Champeta, Dancehall and tons of African tunes. I actually took some photos and wrote an article for a Mediellin magazine my friend ran that you can check here, here and here. This one always stood out to me and was one of my staple tracks when Subsuelo first started. I'm excited to have a chance to collabo with Charlie and get a remix out there!"

Da Rico is the name under which Patrick McMahon writes and releases his music, and in 2017 his group work got put on hold whilst he moved to Mexico City for a year. Without his network of players to work with, Patrick used the year to go back to basics and really focus on his beat making, which has culminated in his most recent release Rico Tape.

Although the name may suggest a lo-if beat tape, each of the 5 tracks are centred around markedly different grooves, taking the listener from hip hop through footwork and wonky funk to a mellow, jazzy cumbia in just over 20 minutes.
