Solstice blessings everyone! Here to keep your body moving on these longest nights, a revamp of a psybreaks mix i did several years ago under my short-lived psybreaks DJ alias, 'Xoomi' ^.^ Published during this summer on Mixcloud, but now that i've got a Pro account back on here, i thought i'd upload it.

It was psybreaks that first pulled me into the world of psychedelic festivals, and part of my creative development from 2007-2015 involved learning how to produce electronic music from psybreaks and tech funk pioneer extraordinaire, Hedflux.

In 2014, underground breaks connoisseur, curator and mix wizard Quextal invited me to do a guest mix on his Quexotic Adventures internet radio show (the show that had inspired me to start my own webcast, New Moon Grooves). The mix included one track produced by myself during my psybreaks years, a skippy, glitchy little number with a sample of Sylvia Plath reading her prophetic feminist poem, 'Mushrooms' (https://vimeo.com/33107001).

The original can be found on Quextal's website (https://tinyurl.com/2bxths56), where you'll also find hours upon hours of quality mind-altering beats from some of the golden eras of psybreaks (so far...) and adjacent genres.

Wishing all a weird and wonderful return to the sunlight ^.^

Quexotic Adventures Guest Mix (2021 Version)

Hello, bass family. It's good to be with you in this space again, after so long. So much has happened, for all of us. I'm not sure whether this mix will be a one off thing, or whether i'll do it again. But i felt the time was right to share some of the musical magic that has been helping me stay just about sane.

If you find some pleasure and nourishment in this mix, it would mean the world to me if you would contribute whatever you can to my fundraiser: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/newmoongrooves

Funds will be gifted to Black Minds Matter UK, an organisation connecting Black people with free mental health support provided by Black therapists. I’ve chosen this organisation because so much of the music i love and that i’m sharing with you now descends from the music of Black people - music that can at least partly be understood as a form of creative response to the social, cultural, intergenerational and personal traumas of white supremacy.

So i invite you to flow into this music that brings us back into our bodies, that opens up space in our minds, that shrinks the distance between us, expands our sense of what’s possible, and reminds us what love, connection and belonging feel like. I invite you to honour the history of this music and the memory of its creative pioneers, by offering support to the people still living with the same injustices today.

I know times are tough for so many of you - if you can't afford to give anything, this mix goes out particularly to you. But if you can afford even just a couple of pounds or dollars, it makes a difference and is deeply appreciated.

Thinking of you all and sending love and best vibes for 2022,

Maia <3

Hello bass family! I bring you vibrations from the start of the season here in Bristol at the Jam Jar, the stomping ground of the weird and truly wonderful folk of the Psychedelic Jelly tribe. After over four years away from the decks, it felt so fucking good to be behind them again.

Gratitude to Forest for having me on such a magnificent lineup, to Mike for lending me a laptop so i could play, and to James for the tunes. I have so many beautiful people supporting me to do this thing <3

See you on a dancefloor somewhere soon...

Snowdrop - Psy Jelly October 2023

I did a thing :) Here is my contribution to a truly lovely remix album by @encounters-electronic. Thank you @overthemoontunes and Tyler Hovestadt for having me be a part of it ^.^ It's a thoroughly surreal experience to see my name next to so many of the names i've been writing in tracklists for my DJ sets over the last decade.

Download your 15 delectable audio dishes here: https://encountersmusic.bandcamp.com/album/a-path-beyond-remixed

"Over the Moon Music invites you on a transdimensional journey with "A Path Beyond Remixed." This collection features 15 reimagined tracks from Encounters' debut album "A Path Beyond," each meticulously reworked by a constellation of electronic maestros—legends like Kaya Project and Bluetech, rising stars such as Globular and Cosmic Trigger, and new pioneers like Enigmada and Snowdrop. The musical alchemy unfolds within a dreamscape of downtempo electronica, intricately woven with organic instrumentation and potent melodies. Adding a final brushstroke, the album's artwork has been rebirthed by Evan Bluetech, echoing the remix ethos to its visual core".

Well what can I say? Despite a second venue change about a week before the festival (!!) Triplicity pulled the fluffiest, most awesome of magical rabbits out of the hat last weekend. Again.

Big love to everyone who got up (or stayed up!) for my 7.30am set and bopped together with me, and to the friends new and old whose company nourished me to my core <3

Thanks also to the incredible artistic souls who filled the chillspace with their epic tunes and vibrant energies, and to the creators of the tracks from which I wove this journey <3

new moon grooves - Spring Equinox 2018 - mixed by SnϕwDrδp

Well it's been a long time since I last did this! And I never intended the last time to be the last time. However, I find myself at a point in my life where far more of my spare energies need to be used for healing, and for growing in new ways. So this is the last time I'll be joining you to celebrate the beginning of a new lunar cycle through the musical magic of psybass - at least for the forseeable future.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you deeply for listening, for joining in this little experiment that has brought me so much joy and connected me with so many amazing people.

I'm going to be suspending my Soundcloud Pro account from next month, so most of my mixes will only be available on Mixcloud ( https://www.mixcloud.com/snowdrop/), but all mixes are downloadable now until the end of the month :)

This may be the end of this particular project, but I have some interesting musical ideas currently baking in the oven that I'd love to be able to share with you when they're done. You can follow me on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/maiasnowdrop/) for updates, but if, like me, you'd like a more personal connection unshaped by the dictates of facebook's algorithmic priorities, you can sign up to my mailing list here: http://eepurl.com/gfJ1g1

I'll also be playing at Anthropos festival in June (info here: https://www.anthroposfestival.org/) and Noisily festival in July (info here: https://noisilyfestival.com/) - hope to see you there!

As always, please support the artists so they can continue making this incredible music and creating alternative culture. You can do this by buying their releases, and also voting for your favourite releases, artists, festivals and DJs of 2018 in psybient.org's yearly community poll here: https://www.psybient.org/love/2018poll/

Until we meet again, sending love, gratitude and best wishes,

Maia

Trippy Dub and Downtempo Mix

Well how about that - my first proper official tune released on a proper official label ^.^

My track sits between the work of two producers whose sounds have been with me since the beginning of my DJ journey, and the other contributors have all brought some kind of joy into my experience in the years since. And it's just such a total privilege to have had the opportunity to be a part of the crazy beautiful project that is @Geoglyph. Thank you, Chris, for giving me the nudge i needed ;)

So it's alllll about the self-promotion this Bandcamp Friday, i.e. today! :p Please do buy the album if it resonates with you and you have the means - and be sure to like, comment and share far and wide if you don't :) <3 Support musicians, labels and event organisers - help to make sure they're still afloat, financially and emotionally, when the time finally comes when we can gather together again <3
