Brought a song back from the coast
which I’d kept warm inside his sweater
He’d journeyed far east from the Mission 
and as my young heart labored with his rites 
I thought another’d love me better
and in Neptune’s wind I unfurled the promises I’d written

And his mother knew he was hers again
The consonance encircling her kitchen

He climbed on rime ‘cross Atlantic sky
to deliver Coney Island on my landing
Ferlinghetti’s words drenched in honey
And I’d no heart to tell him I’d painted his songs 
in the wild mouths of stallions
Through shrill warnings of Psyche’s mortal gnosis

Sold our ballads to ones who’d pay for Love’s depictions
The audience received our romance with more intention

The midnight streets are home to young lovers 
with no need for shoes or money
Born poets clothed in words, nude and cunning 
The weeds he’d left upon my landing
had blossomed for a second season
And with that miracle I stretched garlands from star to star
and danced beneath new constellations 

They cast light into the Rimbaud shadows of my doubt
Hope lingered like a scent I could not wash out

My head laid guarded in his lap, 
hoping something could convince me
that the tenderness I’d felt could be reborn within me
My wells were dry, my sails collapsed
my birds and Sirens forgotten how to sing
And as I retreated into a dark night
madness engulfed him

On my way home from a friend date in Ocean Beach with Monica Flores I noticed a great friend and talented musician Drew Thams walking down Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Upon seeing him I grinned so big I couldn’t whistle at him. Instead I shouted a broken “Hey!” out of the tan van’s window and waved. Monica pulled the car around and we were invited to have a beer with Drew at this very tall redheaded man’s apartment on Cape May.

Within the week Ryan messaged me saying he used to record at a studio in D.C. and that he wanted to get some things into mp3 for me. I came over that weekend and this is what we made. I got a few intimate recordings and a new boyfriend out of that chance encounter in Ocean Beach.

I did not write these songs. These are for you.
